Any idea if Star Trek into the Darkness will come with an itunes code, ideally an HD version. That would makes getting the blu-ray a no brainer

It comes with a 720p iTunes version of the movie if anyone is still interested.

Just redeemed mine in iTunes and it redeemed in 1080.

On my ST-Into Darkness set (3D/BR/DVD/DC), I got SD with iTunes Extra, and an HD copy. HD copies will download in either 720p or 1080p, whichever you have set from within iTunes. You can download both, if you want.

Oz: the Great and Powerful downloaded as HD with iTunes Extras.
Is this the first Disney movie that comes with an HD iTunes code?

Well then..

All WB movies are UV only now.

...I have a new plan for buying movies. If it's any studio that includes an HD iTunes version, I buy the Blu Ray, for the better quality AND an HD copy to watch on my apple tv and ipad.

If it's a WB movie where all they do is provide a UV copy (or SD itunes copy), then I buy it on iTunes.

It's just way too convenient to have it in the cloud.

But by buying the Blu Ray with an HD Digital Copy, it's the best of both worlds.

Don't know why WB doesn't offer choice like many others do.

Both my ST:ID and IM3 Blu Rays gave me the choice of UV or iTunes. That way everyone's happy.

Safe House from Blu-ray USA:

SD iTunes
SD iTunes extras
HDX Vudu

Iron Man 3 Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy:
Choice of Amazon, Vudu, iTunes. I took iTunes and got HD for the movie, didn't check iTunes extras

I got Iron Man 3 (3D/BD/DVD/DC/Music) and it came with iTunes Extra.

Also note that the DC code is usable for only one service provider. I chose iTunes, so I'm shut out on Vudu and Amazon.

On Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z, I was able to use the same code to redeem both iTunes and Vudu/Ultraviolet.

Maybe the difference is that ST:ID and WWZ were UV titles while IronMan3 was not.

Iron Man 3 is under the Disney umbrella, so they handle things their own way. You get 1 choice..

Also, don't think you're going to get an extra digital code by pre-ordering Disney titles at Wal-Mart. The preorder will get you a Vudu digital copy, often before the Blu release. However, when you receive your physical copies you won't be able to redeem the included code for another digital copy. The Wal-Mart preorder disks have their own product code and they know you already have a digital copy. The insert is even unique and says your digital copy is already in your "digital locker".

TLDR edition: Do NOT preorder Disney Blu-rays from the Wal-Mart displays if you want an iTunes digital copy.

really. That sucks. Not preordering from Walmart. I'll just go on Tuesdays and pick one out.

Any word on The Little Mermaid digital copy that comes with the "diamond" Blu pack?

Also, USA "The Croods" Blu-ray with free toy release..

iTunes - SD
Vudu - HDX

Don't buy this edition. It comes with a crappy slim Blu-ray case.

Weird Science Blu-ray iTunes digital copy redeems in HD.

Tower Heist redeems in SD. :-(

Turbo installs as SD from disk. A delete and re-download nets an SD movie and iTunes extras.

All USA Blu-rays...

The Wolverine - Best Buy Exclusive box set - NO HD!

Stinker: this particular edition of "The Wolverine" has nice packaging & even comes with an HD UltraViolet redemption code but comes with an iTunes STANDARD DEFINITION redemption code. In addition, the standard def movie you get from iTunes with this code does NOT include iTunes Extras AND is NOT the "Extended Cut" of the movie.

I use the digital copies for when I'm away from home. SD or HD they both look very good on my MBP retina. I don't watch copies of my blurays at home (how hard is it to put a disc in a tray?). Plus, I haven't found any icloud like services that support DTS-HD master audio.
On the video side, I own a Panasonic VT60 hdtv and the picture quality of anything other than the original bluray disc is a disappointment. One thing I do, do when visiting friends, is that I take my ATV with me for a movie night and stream from itunes my movies and music.

Typically, if you delete the file and redownload from iCloud, you'll get iTunes Extra.

EDIT - I've confirmed yesterday that deleting and redownloading from the cloud will get you the iTunes Extra package.

Yeah this one stings a bit, what a terrible release.

You are forced to buy the 3D version if you want the Extended Blu-ray. But even then, you get SD iTunes (non extended ver) and UV HDX (non extended ver).

I've fully come to embrace UV via Vudu HDX since it's on so many platforms now.

I ALSO was able to confirm this. Thanks for pointing this out!

Despicable Me 2 3D

Despicable Me 2 3D allows for both iTunes and UV redemption.

iTunes downloads in HD with iTunes Extra

UV gives you an HDX copy.

As with ST and WWZ, Universal is proving to be the most generous in terms of providing Digital Copies.

Yup.... I just found this out. Emailed Apple and they said they fixed it by removing the movie from my iCloud and giving me 3 video credits that can only be used for music videos haha. I emailed them back asking for the movie back as that is not what I wanted and also said it was false advertising. As my Blu ray case says Digital HD copy.

I mean I got the movie for 10 bucks at target on blu ray w/ digital copy but I see why people just download them from other places. Apple are bunch of D bags when it comes to digital copies. All my other movies purchased in 2013 have been digital HD.

Dude, it's not Apple's choice to give us the digital copy in SD, it's stupid FOX, all of their releases are like that. And they don't make the decision if you get the regular version or the extended version, they just go with what the studios tell them to do!!!! Please get you facts straight! It is Fox that you have the beef with not Apple! Also, I have been tracking digital copies, you can look in my signature for the spreadsheet!

You can download both the UV and iTunes copy. The UV is HD tho. It makes no sense for the apple one not to be.

apple probably wants too much $$$$ to redeem the digital copies

Yea just kind of annoying as I have gotten 8 blu rays this year and they are all HD except Wolverine which was the on I was most looking forward too. Warner Brothers not making their movies iTunes digital any more makes me very sad. Didn't buy the new superman because of it

I don't mind the UV copies since i have a recent smart blu ray player, even though i prefer itunes. but i'm not buying a 3D blu ray just for the itunes copy

I understand the frustration, but like Gadgetman states, your beef is with Fox (in this case), not Apple.

If you want HD Digital Copies, stick with Disney and Universal movies. And some other ones.

Fox only gives SD and Warner doesn't give you iTunes at all.

At this point, I don't care about whether iTunes is still the default for digital copies. I just want to be able to watch my Digital Copies in HD on my TV. I would love Apple to add a Vudu app on the aTV, but I know that won't ever happen. In the meantime, I have to use my smart TV's Vudu app, which works fine, but the interface sucks and the menus are slow.

It's always a good idea to carefully check which digital versions are included with your disc or online purchase. Digital HD with UltraViolet, which allows fans to watch a digital version of their movie or TV show on their favorite devices, is included with the purchase of specially marked Blu-ray discs. It’s also available for online purchase at select retailers. Digital HD with UltraViolet lets users stream and download their movies and TV shows in HD on a variety of devices through UltraViolet retail services like CinemaNow, Flixster, Target Ticket, VUDU and more -- you should check with the Retailer of your choice for details and requirements and for a list of HD-compatible devices to ensure your movie can be watched in HD.

The Little Mermaid 3d edition I purchased came with an option for iTunes, Vudu or Amazon.

I chose iTunes and got an HD digital copy :D

We got the Little Mermaid Diamond Edition.

It came with a digital copy, and the options were: iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, and Google Play.

I chose iTunes and got an HD copy as well as iTunes Extras! Great value, considering we got it from Costco for $21 and it also came with the packaging, the blu-ray, and a DVD copy plus extras discs. The HD iTunes file is ~3GB. It was 720p and I didn't see a 1080p option, but I'm going to try and re-set my download options and see if I can get the 1080p version (if there is one). But the 720p file looks BEAUTIFUL on my 1080p tv.

Too think I just got the new superman thinking I can transfer it to my itunes library. I learned my lesson. FU WB if you're going to do that. Might as well just get bootleg copies. :D lol. jk.
