Blue Screen w/ external monitor

Looks like this thread ran for quite a few months and then simply stopped. Has anyone found a resolution to this problem? Here is my situation. MBP 15" with OS version 10.5.6 / 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU / 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. With an external monitor hooked up (specifically a Cinema 23") or any other external monitor for that matter, only on the first couple of cold boots, sometimes I get to my desktop and begin to work and both monitors will flash to a blue screen. Sometimes it recovers but when it does it will eventually flash to blue screens again and not recover. Time for a hard shut down and reboot. Sometimes it won't fully boot before getting the blue screens. It takes anywhere from 2-4 reboots and then everything will work fine the remainder of the day. Take MBP home w/o external monitor and no problem. Next morning back at the office, same scenario and very annoying. I have not contacted Apple as I'm out of warranty anyway. I did contact a local repair shop and he mentioned it could possibly be bad RAM or even the logic board. Another problem is that if I boot w/o the external monitor plugged in, it doesn't come up when I do plug it in after booting. So, the only way to have my external monitor is to reboot and reboot and reboot some more. If anyone has had any luck resolving this please reply!!! This was the most comprehensive thread I could find on the subject. Thanks

Well one of the reasons the thread stopped (at least from my end) is that one of the latest updates must have fixed the issue since I have not had this problem anymore in the past few months. I can't pinpoint exactly which update did it for me because I used to always unplug my monitor before rebooting until one day i forgot to do so and realized that it worked anyways. Since then it has always worked.

Sorry to hear about your problem but it seems to me that you have a different issue, which sounds more like hardware related... did it start happening after a particular update? Can you plug it in different monitors or any monitor will cause the issue? I know it sounds unrelated and far fetched but have you tried to "verify disk" with the Disk Utility? Some file might have been corrupted and could in the end cause this issue. I know that for me Verify Disk has solved problems sometimes that seemed completely unrelated so, give it a try! And good luck!

Thanks for the reply franz. I have done the verify disk utility, as you said, just in case something strange was going on with file corruption. Although the utility did find and fix a few errors it did not resolve the problem. I'm beginning to believe that my problem is indeed hardware related even though it is so similar to the posts in this thread. It is the same with any external monitor attached. Maybe even a heat related hardware failure because once it's been rebooted a few times it works great all day. Just on a cold boot and only with the external monitor attached do I have this problem.
