I returned my iPhone yesterday due to a defect and received the yellow tinged version.

The genius mentioned that this was the newest-of-new replacements available.

I'm not sure which version I like. I do prefer whiter whites normally but blacks look so much better on the yellow tinged screen.

Here it is sitting on an iPad -

1. DO NOT compare iPhone to iPad. Even the most bluest tint iPhone 4 I ever had was no where as blue as my MBP. Your phone looks good.

2. Just deal with it and go back if it bothers you. I got over mine because its a big hassle replacing it.

1. I was just showing the difference. Btw iPhone and MPB are even more dissimilar.

2. Don't worry I'll do whichever I decide.

seriously, some of you guys just love to complain

doesn't matter WHAT TINT YOUR SCREEN IS your eyes will get used to it.

i just compared my screen for the first time since i got my iPhone in August... and guess what? it's yellow tinted. it's still the OG phone i've been using.

my eyes adjusted to it so well that i thought i had a perfect screen, until now.

am i gonna go complain at the Apple store? no.

New iPhone 4 16Gb White... Yellow tinted screen compared to Black 4. Im OCD but... its just a 500$ phone... so... im trying to calm myself down a lil...

I believe all/most IPS screens are calibrated to slightly warmer white, because that's the professional setting for photo and video editing, and is also what looks more natural if you compare picture on such screen to a similar scene in nature under sunlight. For example, if you look at the grass under sunlight, it won't have a cold green tint, it will have more of a warm green tint to it.

Yeah dude, it's a bummer. That's what I noticed between my black and white unit as well. However, I believe all the white units are shipping with the yellow panel. Just gotta get used to it.

The new black units seem to be shipping with this screen as well. I went through 2 or 3 a few months ago before just settling.

Yes, correctly CALIBRATED screens will have a WARMER color temperature. Not YELLOW.

Now, the iPhone was NOT intentionally designed with a "WARMER" screen to appease the masses. It's a quality control issue clearly. If it was suppose to be that way, there would NOT be so much variation or cooler colored screens. Yellow screens on the iPhone don't POP. They are yellow, washed out and lack clarity. I can attest to this. Trust me. I have seen it with my own two eyes.

Believe what you want. If you think a yellow, washed out screen is for you - go for it. I will NOT accept it, ever.

Uh...Yellow is warmer and when comparing a calibrated display to a display that is NOT correctly calibrated...the calibrated screen LOOKS more... YELLOW. I suppose your video display is bright blue too? You don't have a clue as to what you speak of. Sorry.

i gotta say, this is weird, usually im guessing you guys either get the blue tint or yellow right from the start with a brand new iphone 4 right? well, for me... it seems like when i first got my iphone 4 it had the yellow bright tint where there were a lot of contrast and brightness to the screen (which i like) then it gradually went to a blue tint over a couple months and my screen started to look washed out, what the hell, really weird. now my screen has a blue tint and looks washed out..

So I decided to visit my apple store today about this. On display there were 2 white iPhones side by side with different screens. One blue and one warm tinted. I compared it to my own white iPhone and found that I had the warmer screen. All the phones had auto-brightness off and was at maximum brightness. Warmer screen was brighter and the whites looked more white, where as the whites on the blue screen one had a greyer tint to it. Upon comparing the stock wallpapers, I find that the warmer screen had more depth to the colors. You could actually see more color variation in the warmer screen. The bluer tint screen displayed a darker image with darker colors (which made less of a contrast in the picture, the colors weren't as vibrant, and didn't very "pop").

I can confirm the bluer tint screens do exist on the white iPhone 4, and I asked a sales about it. He said that the bluer screens were more of the initial batch of iPhones from last year, and that the panels are shifted into more of a warmer variation now.

Also, I really don't think the warmer screens are "yellow" at all. But is just a matter of preference, and I personally prefer the brighter/warmer colors.

What?

I was in the mall the other day and decided to check out how the white iPhone looked in person since I originally wanted white during release.

One of the things I did was compare screens - the white display model I played with had a colder blue screen compared to my 5K refurb, as expected. However after messing with display brightness, I also found out that the display on my 5K model refurb has weaker backlighting at max brightness compared to the display models.

I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to swap it out, so I'll just deal with it. Just wanted to put it out there if anyone was curious.

I was sitting here thinking about your display and I'm so glad you finally cleared it up for me! You're funny.

I really give a hooties cow what "color" my display is as long as it lights up and works.

I had the black iPhone 4 but as I always wanted white I purchased one last Saturday. Surprise surprise it had the warmer tone compared to my black one. I decided to still sell the black and hopefully get used to the warmer tone on the white. Anyway I was at the apple store today and they had some more stock in of the white so I purchased another (thank god for Apple's 14 day no questions asked return policy). I am very happy I did as it has the cooler tone, woohoo!! I will now return the other one.

lucky you, envy you, jealous you...:(

I like cooler colors and miss the blue tint on my original iPhone 4

it seems new and replacement (what i have currently) units are shipping with the yellow screens now

hmm my old one had the "normal" colour and my new replacement is "yellow" ... so technically i agree, but other than your own experience do you have any other proof?....basically if i get another replacement is it going to be yellow?

@samven582
That's a great set of comparisons. While I understand that it's hard to judge color based on a picture of a screen, the "warm" screen on the right look better to me. Especially the photos. For example, there is significantly more detail in the blue jeans and flowers.

i totally agree, i noticed my replacement was yellow after about 5 mins of using it (sadly i didn't use it until i had left the apple store and gotten home, over an hour away)
I'll be ringing apple tomorrow

Was in SF today, showed them my yellow screen replacement (orginal was blue tinted) and he noticed it was yellow. gave me replacement (was yellow) took out 3 more all yellow

Conclusion: After seeing 8 replacement iPhone 4s, they are all yellow tinted
(brand new are blue)

nothing you can do about it.

This is totally screwed up, i swapped my iphone for another (because of problems with home button), yes the new one had a properly working home button, but the screen imo is very different, surely they cant do this, the colours are very different....
