Are you sure? While Bluesky has largely committed to not make advertising a core business for the platform, I don't think they've taken the possibility of advertising completely off the table indefinitely.

Yes, but Blue wasn’t a pay-to-play structure that rewarded payment with engagement. It was just a way to enjoy the site without ads.
Now, in order to get any kind of benefit to using the platform, you have to pay or no one will interact with your posts.
If you can’t see the scam, it means you’re the mark.

Perhaps you could expand on what you mean by "pay to play" structure. Things like Promoted Tweets, Super Follows, Ticketed Spaces, etc. existed on Twitter before Musk took over.
Yes, Premium/Premium+ has taken it to a new level as far as potential impact on reply rankings, engagement, etc. but for the average casual user, none of this probably matters too much versus what Twitter had already become before Musk took over.
Scam? I think X is pretty straightforward about how their "features" work, for better or worse.

That's the unfortunate aspect of social media platforms like Bluesky, X, etc. Sadly, things can get toxic on all sorts of online platforms, forums, comment sections, etc.

If you want your replies to appear at the bottom of every thread, sure. Not only that, paying users can filter out non-paying users so they don't even see them.
In order to get any kind of visibility or exposure, you have to pay. And I have no interest in paying to help fund and support the biggest CSAM generator in history.
That can depend on the type of visibility you are looking for. Someone's X posts are pretty much certain to be able to be seen by people they follow and who follow them (mutual accounts) and then it starts to slide from there.
When engaging with large/active accounts, the chances of being "seen" by and in those was always pretty low simply from a volume factor but yes, there is now the additional impact of the paid account visual/placement advantage. However, I don’t think engagement activities (posting, replying) related to small or mutual accounts are impacted much and this is where casual users tend to be most actively engaged anyway.
Only a tiny percentage of X accounts are paid Premium/Premium+. I think those are mostly for companies or individuals/influencers trying to directly or indirectly make money from their X activity. The activities from those accounts are definitely prioritized and pushed more. Same has been even more true for promoted tweets/posts.

That blue butterfly isn't ever going to be mainstream because it doesn't have the pull that twit has from being legacy. That's just like all the social networks after the cambridge analytica debacle at Facebook. Google+ yeah we knew that wasn't going to last. Notable people, politicians, athletes, sports world, entertainment are all are mainstrays on X.
Grok being part of the X sub also beefs it up, social media play with not having to buy a Sam OpenAI sub probably helps too.

Yeah, that's part of the allure. A smaller social media service keeps the dregs of society out.
You'd be surprised at how many of them have closed their accounts and moved onto greener pastures, or quit social media entirely, because of the dumpster fire Twitter has turned into.

Nah, they are all there. Your local congressman, Labron James, ESPN, CNN, Jake Tapper, etc. The place is fine.
Cherry-picking aside, my point is enough people are tired of the endless noise, pay-to-play, engagement-farming, rage-baiting doom-scrolling, biased algorithms, and post-inserting to build Bluesky up into a 40M+ userbase.
It doesn't need to topple Twitter, that's not its goal. It just needs to be what Twitter isn't, and for that, it succeeds.
