    Hey,

I have an '09 mac pro with built in bluetooth...

... trouble is that my apple mouse doesn't work very well, i would like to see if it is because of poor reception (four feet away, through a wood desk is too far?)

I am wondering if a bluetooth dongle would somehow interfere with the internal bluetooth module. Do i need to deactivate the internal bluetooth to use a usb bluetooth dongle? the aim with using a usb bluetooth dongle is to plug it in to a monitor usb port which is very close to where i mouse...

    thanks,
    r.

your plan should be good. don't worry about the dongle and the interior bluetooth as long as the dongle and the mouse are close most likely it will work. If you are close to military bases and airports it is all a crap-shoot as there are many types of interference signals present also if you are really close to a cell tower it may not work well.

There's a number of threads about this, here.
I am doing what you're trying with a 09. I had to deactivate the internal bluetooth module by plugging out the cable that connects it to the logic board. Now the reception is very good. The only catch is that I have to plug in/out the dongle whenever I wake the computer from sleep.
