I just picked up my wireless MM, from the apple store on 5th Avenue NYC no less. I love it, but i asked about the EDU discount and they checked and told me none offered on the mouse :(

So far, so brilliant, except that it's quite slow on anything besides the highest setting, any suggestions to help it out?

BT MM (Bluetooth MightMouse)

Anyone else notice the CONTROL+SCROLL Wheel option?? I don't remember that before.

I freaking love that!

That's because it's new to the new driver. If you install the new driver on a computer that is using a wired Mighty Mouse, the wired one gets the same capability. But it's apparently not available for download.

edit: also new is '360 Degree' scrolling. Now the scroll ball can smoothly scroll in directions other than horizontal or vertical. But this doesn't seem to help the wired Mighty Mouse. (Even if you select it, it still is a little 'choppy' scrolling diagonal. Although maybe it's just mine.)

I'm on the latest PPC Powerbook 15", I just tried to do the smooth scrolling in "Preview" and Safari. Neither could do diagonal. Just one way at a time. What application were you able to do it in?

Works in Finder, iPhoto, Preview, and Safari for me.

You have to turn it on in System Preferences. It comes by default in 'Vertical & Horizontal' scrolling mode. You need to switch to '360 Degree'.

Has anyone tried the bluetooth mighty mouse on a frosted glass surface? My desk manages to paralyze traditional optical mice, but I was hoping the laser tracking would have potential.

I'll let you know in a week. A friend who has a frosted glass desk will be getting his (BTMM) by then.

i don't feel like reading 20+ pages but how come when you build an imac a wireless keyboard/mouse option comes up like before....
update to the imacs?:D

Wired MM has always had 360 scrolling, it's the horizontal and vertical only option that's new. I've used the 360 so many times to demonstrate to others how functional it is, not to mention 360 two fingered scrolling on portables.

Before, (as still is on one of my computers,) the MM had two check boxes, one for Vertical scrolling, one for Horizontal. It could do 'diagonal' scrolling, but it was really a horizontal followed by a vertical scroll in rapid sucession. Some apps handled it better than others.

With the new driver, there is a drop-down box with four options. 'No scrolling', 'Vertical only', 'Vertical & Horizontal', and '360 Degree'. I can noticably tell the difference between 'Vertical & Horizontal' and '360 Degree'. And I can tell the difference between '360 Degree' with the Wireless MM and the wired.

I picked up a wireless MM from the 5th ave store (only had 40 left this afternoon) Its really nice! Also, as posted it works in Windows with limited functionality (rightclikc and vertical scrolling) Thats great for me, because I carry a mouse so I can rightclick.

Unfortuneatly, I can (again?) confirm it does not work well on glass. My girlfriends desk has a piece of glass (not frosted) over it to protect it, and the mouse works sporatically on it.

im not worried about the glass deal, simply because i still use mousepads just to have a good opaque surface that can't possibly hurt my mouse... i'd really like to get the BTMM... but it's gonna have to be a little less that $60 before i can get one :(

Sorry, 20 pages is too much.....Engadget just put up a review conducted by someone about the BTMM and to say the least the review pretty much said that the mighty mouse is not very good and unless you want to match your accesories that it is not worth it. What do the owners of the BTMM think. Pros and Cons??

Thanks

Unfortunately, these are relative terms. BTMM is exactly what I need, a simple mouse with scrolling capabilty and two buttons that pairs seamlessly, and tracks fairly accurately.

Would I use this for gaming. No - that's not what the computer it is attached to is for.

Critics are all too easily found wrong if the perspectve is changed even slightly.

Just installed mine...it rocks. No slow tracking issues or anything. Of course I'm using a POWERBook, and not a MBP so your mileage may vary.

its funny that all the mac geeks on this board, people that would never touch a microsoft product, people that are in love with apple computers...hate every single new product that apple comes out with...

btw: i just ordered a BT MM hopefully it wont take ages to get here...and what the ****...they charge me 6 bucks shipping...i just spent over 2 grand in the apple store over the past couple months...that kinda pisses me off...

Where do you live? You shouldn't get charged for shipping on orders over $50. Also, not all of us hate Apple's products!

Looking for some advice from you pros to a rookie coming over from the dark side to my first mac, likely a mac mini. I'd like to use a wireless keyboard/mouse combination with my mac. I'm used to a two button mouse with forward and back buttons on the side. I've read good reviews on the Logitech wireless desktop combo for the Mac. That would require plugging in the usb receiver in a usb slot. I wouldn't have to do that with a bluetooth combination, so I'm also looking at the Apple bluetooth wireless keyboard in combo with the new Apple bluetooth mighty mouse. Can anyone comment and compare the Logitech usb combo and the Apple bluetooth combo? Does the boothtooth work as well as the usb wireless? Thanks in advance.

All - righty!

Yes, the Logitech requires the use of a USB slot (there are three so no biggie), however, usine a Mac Mini in an entertainment center, I've noticed that Tranceiver-base peripherals like the Logitech set you discuss doesn't have the range or reception of the BT. However, Logitech makes a BT mouse you could use for that nice side-button stuff.

I'd recommend the BT Logitech mouse with an Apple Wireless Keyboard.

Just got mine today and I do like it. The only problem I am seeing is that it doesn't track all that fast even on the highest settings. Much faster to use my trackpad... I had free shipping and I ordered it on Mon and it got here today.. Was supposed to be 5 business days.
