The new chip will be 32nm - as for faster a9 or a15, I'm hoping a15, but I think apple will use whichever solution will use less power.

Quad a9 is as fast as dual a15...anyone's guess...

Not really. For the vast vast majority of applications, dual a15 will be much faster.

Hopefully A9 or A15, as the current CPU is getting a bit long in the tooth. A5 processor is in the 4 / 4S. The iPad 3 was the first of the new A5X CPU. I think they should go for a quad core A9 processor - the same one used in the PS Vita which is a quad-core CPU / GPU in one.

They won't use the same one in the Vita. That has a special SiP SoC with the VRAM mounted directly on top of the SoC for a 1024 bit wide memory interface to the GPU. Apple doesn't need anything that exotic.

The A5 debuted in the 4S. The iPhone 4 carries the A4 processor. So, in that regard, the A5 is only less than a year old. To my mind, power consumption and heat are the two main issues. My 4S runs smooth as silk even running graphically intensive games. I can't see the need for much more but longer battery life and less heat could come in handy.

A5 debuted in iPad 2. At the time of this iPhone's launch, it will be 1.5 years old.

A5X Say What!?

It will be a huge disappointment for me if the next iPhone uses the A5X chip. In benchmarking tests the CPU in the A5X sometimes has worse performance than the A5 that came before it. I own an iPad 2 and new iPad and have ran the Geekbench tests and was curious with the results. Of course the A5X outperformed the A5 in the PaWaMark tests, so at least graphics would get a boost, which will be needed for a larger screen.

I would much prefer a new SoC (A6?) with a more powerful CPU be put into the next iPhone. I know it's the kind of move people expect from Apple to keep year-old technology in a new product, but I find it a bit insulting that they wouldn't put something better in there.

Who cares about individual parts? I managed to get my hands on an entire iPhone 5! Check it out:

If anybody's computer lags while viewing those images, I have lower quality versions available.

The new iPad's A5X CPU has a more complex memory hierarchy to support the four GPUs and a higher overhead to support the retina screen, all while retaining the core clock of the A5. That's why.

Of course, you're absolutely right. I should have been specific that it debuted in a phone with the 4S. The poster I was responding to said it was in the 4.

Nfc?

Anyone see any evidence of NFC on here? Or in any other of the leaked parts either? Would be nice to have it but I don't think we've seen anything to make us confident.

Not sure. Other phones with NFC have had them in the battery. I don't know if they could do that without an obvious external change on the battery we already saw.

Apple's invention of passbook strongly hints at NFC though. Particularly their purchase of the mobile device security firm.
