LOL, the votes are counted, and Tiger is the winner. I'll put it on the iMac and set this eMac aside until the capacitors come and it can be fixed.

Many thanks! :D

Another vote for Tiger

Panther is almost unusable these days with no modern browser (unless you count icab, which I don't). Tiger gives you tenfourfox, a more recent VLC, NicePlayer, Quicktime 7.6.4, Omniweb, the list goes on and on. I predict you will be very happy to get your G4 emac back in action though.

I had an iMac that was blurry. fortunately using the focus knob I was able to refocus it. Good luck with the CRT. I can tell you horror stories working with CRTs but I don't want to scare you. Maybe when you are done...

OK, thanks. :)

I can't see anything on You Tube with Panther, but put it on because several people said it's more stable. I will put Tiger on, but not today, because we're in the middle of a snowstorm and the electricity has been going on and off. I don't need that in the middle of an OS upgrade. The eMac did a few weird things the last two times the power came back on, so I'd best get off the computer until this is over.

It's great to have helpful people who like these older Macs too, thanks again!

Edited to add: Focus knob? Where is that on an eMac, please?

Please tell me a story!

yay... storytime :D sits down with popcorn and coke and waits for the story :D

Had a timex fuse to a flyback transformer, I had two identical units discharged one, then worked on it's twin. The current burned through the leather band, and singed the hair in my arm...

The iMac G3 has it opposite the i/o panel. I checked my eMac service manuals, and the eMacs don't appear to have a focus knob!
OK, thanks for looking. Since it's something that gets worse the longer the computer is on and varies between better and worse, I'm going to guess it's a problem with the internal components and not something that can be adjusted.
