Is BMW still the only one used the Apple CarKey feature? Waiting for Mercedes to implement this.

Have you used it? Works 95% of the time, but the other 5% doesn't unlock and requires me to launch the app to unlock manually. Bluetooth isn't reliable.

Even Linus experienced it when he filmed the Model Y review (1:20)

Also, CarKey will work even if your phone is at 0% battery (iPhone has some reserve for up to 5 hours)

And, if I lose my iPhone and wallet (which has happened when I was at the gym), my Apple Watch can be the backup.

Lastly, my brother was able to open my trunk without me knowing since my phone inside my room was close enough to the car. Doesn't seem too secure and would rather just wave my Apple Watch at the B-Pillar to unlock with 100% reliability.
Have never had an issue. On the contrary, Apple Pay via NFC very often fails to connect to terminal, because it should be in many cases put to close to the port!

linus had issues (as shown the video). i have issues. but you're just going to assume we're both lying?

I find that sometimes the car goes into too deep of sleep when the doors don’t work. I see the same hesitation to unlock using the fob sometimes. I don’t think using car key will help with that (much).

bluetooth is always on

i think car key will work reliably since it’s nfc. will work just as good as apple pay

Ah we could use NFC now on iPhones if Apple allowed third party access (from my understanding the Tesla app will allow unlocking via NFC on Android).

I know bluetooth is supposed to be always on, sometimes the rest of the car takes to long to respond, you can sometimes get the same delay using the supplied key card.

keycard has always worked for me. not sure what delay there is

🤷🏽‍♂️ No clue why. I mean I haven’t seen a huge delay with the past few software updates (maybe a year) but is has happened.

lol, you're so wrong.

one of the BIG differences is that CarKey will still work after your phone dies from 0% battery for up to 5 hours. https://www.slashgear.com/iphone-di...you-have-5-hours-to-unlock-your-car-22625879/
5 hours is nothing! You are on the trip and stuck in nowhere. What you gonna do? Sure call for assistance if a key is left over. So far real key can’t be eliminated. Apple Carkey or App no difference, because in the end you are still dependent on the phone.

what? you have 5 hours to unlock your car after your phone shuts down due to 0% battery. if you can unlock your car, you can charge your phone in the dock. i have no clue what you're trying to say.

and CarKey lets your Apple watch be a key too. so if your phone dies, your Apple watch can be the backup. my Apple Watch battery lasts over a day AND it has energy reserves incase the watch is at 0% battery.

Options are great. Phone as key has worked 100% on my 2021 Tesla Model 3. I keep the NFC card in my phone wallet case. I do wish I could use my Watch as key, even if only as NFC card emulation to the sensor in the B-pillar.

If I lose my phone/wallet, I’m kinda screwed, although I could always call my partner and have him unlock and start the car remotely for me. The NFC key cards from Tesla are only $25 for two, and you can program them to your car yourself. My previous car used a keyless start fob, but it was $250 for an extra, plus dealer programming fee.

That said, CarKey sounds even better, especially if it were part of an open standard.
