If they aren't permitted to sell their products there - how will having an ambassador help? ;)

They are permitted to sell products there and DO sell them. Not sure why you think otherwise.

I am waiting for a Bollywood dance style commercial as a result of this collaboration. That would be kinda awesome. :D

Totally! I assume you also want Tim to make a cameo? I do! :D

I love how Apple fans always bring up Dre's dispicable past with Dee Brown. But make no mention of Steve Jobs' equally dispicable past with his own child.

Ambassadors help sell product. Need more reasons than that?

Did I say on my post that I would give SJ a pass for being such a dick with his own daughter? I guess not.

Second, did Apple ever needed "ambassadors" to sell their products in the past? I guess not. Their products would sell because they were absolutely great and far ahead of the competition. Perhaps they may need them now that many of their products are becoming obsolete and they lost their mojo. But in this case, I would not go with their picks, and that includes the worst of them (Dr. Dre.).

What I love is how apple fanboys always try to make excuses for apple's poor decisions.

I remember back when Apple fans were proud of how the products could "sell themselves" unlike the competition that needed to beg you and try very hard to convince you to buy theirs instead.

So yes. Apple now needs ambassadors to help sell product. And that's a shame.

India has 1.27B people. Apple are going after those humans with another human.
So India has 1.3 billion people to help Apple grow even more? 60% of them are living on $4 a day. India only has a middle class of around 300 million, but Indian middle class is American poor. The Indian middle class makes $16 to $20 per day. That's 300 million people. There are another 600 million that make less than that.

Apple trying to manufacture in India with their well-known relations with Chinese labor sure looks great for the growth of India, right? Americans are clamoring for a $15 hourly wage while Indians making $20 a day are the Indian middle class, so we can be sure that Indian manufacturing workers making the iPhones will be getting that "Indian middle class" pay.

Stop swanning around with other rich people and start earning your salary you feckless, dull, waste of space. Check out the stock price occassionally and then do the decent thing and quit.

So they chose a star that is consecutively giving flops? Salman Khan FTW!

You will see in my response I said "Apple Fans" not YOU. But you, like many others are always quick to mention Dr. Dre's past. PAST.... not present. Let it go already.

I don't think you will find one company today who does not use brand ambassadors when selling in foreign countries. Its just smart business...no matter how successful you are or how great your products are. Do a search and you will find the answers to WHY companies need to do this.

Steve Job's Apple existed in a world LESS (not totally) globally social than today's Apple. Brand ambassadors are used by successful companies the world over. You somehow see this as Apple in decline.....rather, this is just part of how business is done today. Especially when you are dealing with a foreign markets/cultures.

And that quote was about market research. Which is used to find out WHAT people want or WHERE a certain market is going.

Brand ambassadors are not for market research.

Tim, I'll be your brand ambassador for Northern New Hampshire. I go to all of the Farmer's Markets and Maple Sugaring events. I even visit our 'only bar in town' at least once a week wearing my Apple Watch and Apple t-Shirt.

awaiting your email.

An insider reportedly told ANI that the "company does not need a brand ambassador in India or anywhere else."

Soooooo dissapointed. I was truly hoping for an apple bollywood commercial. Something like this (filmed on an iphone of course) --

Breathe bro. Let go of this useless anger. Go for a walk. Pet a puppy. Do something relaxing.

Fair enough...good advice mate.

However, it does make me angry all these preening bags of fluff who just because they are overpaid think they are worthwhile members of society (see, you set me off again......quick where's the dogs lead, time for walkies).
:)

Just make sure the phones are new and you have a mango lassi bar in every store to qualify for the local product requirement.

It's a smart move. Design and function isn't as important to the general Indian market as much has having a well known face attached to the product. In India, truly awful movies and shows become popular because the right star is in it. Celebrity worship in America is nothing compared to the level of celebrity worship in India. In some places a few celebrities are literally worshipped as gods, as avatars or second coming of the gods from the scriptures.

A clean, minimalist American style Apple Ad that we're so used to in USA would probably fall flat in India. Smart to get a celebrity spokesperson...

...I just wish they didn't get assbag Shah Rukh Khan. He can't act out of jury duty.

I point out the market research quote because it showed the philosophy Apple used to have, which was to make products as great as they could first, and then let the demand for the product lead to success. That goes along with the way Apple products would "sell themselves" as I said.

It's not especially great that a company with that history (that already was and is known worldwide) is trying so hard to convince a market to accept them.

"Did you see our product placement in the hit straight to DVD Kumar Steals A Watch Band, yes, no?"
