and with 30+ years of chiclet keyboard attempts

I've been computing since '82 (first machine was a Vic 20) and have played with all sorts of hardware throughout the years.

To even compare the current Apple/Sony take on flat keys vs. the downmarket offerings of the 70s/80s is just plain silly. The feel is nothing at all alike.

Design is form and function.

This reminds me of the "hockey puck" mouse. While pretty, its only function was to give people Carpal Tunnel. The die hard Apple fasion'nistas swore to it would be comfortable once used to it, and "besides" they would say, "Just look at it! Its beautiful!"

Many flock to Apple like the electronic equivalent of Prada. Whatever walks the runway in Cupertino is the "IT" accessory for the season. This is evident in this forum where where many are more worried about the color of the keyboard than if it fits their manicured fingers.

Apple is always at its best when its function and fashion are in balance, and the minimalist keyboard is a step towards messing up that balance. The chicklett keyboard like too many designer products are made more for making an hour long appearance on Rodeo drive than they are for wearing comfortably all day long. Besides retro fashions like bell bottom jeans, and PC Jr style keyboards show little innovation, just a lot of "fabulous" arrogance.

As soon as apple designs a keyboard that can improve everyones typing by 10wpm then they've got license to go funky with keyboards.

looks like it will be yes. i thought id hate the keyboard too but after using a macbook its not so bad. only thing that sucks is trying to clean it with all those little divets/recessed portions that can collect crap

ya i have to agree, boo on these keys....

... I'll live I guess, don't get rid of the backlit keys, thats all I'm saying.

It's not just the 'MB' and 'Air' keyboard. It is also the keyboard with the iMac, and the Mac Pro, and the recommended keyboard for the Mac Mini...as in the 'Apple Keyboard' for every keyboard in Apple's line *Except* the Macbook Pro.

Of course it is going to get the 'new' keyboard.

Dudes... seriously... it's just a stupid keyboard, not the end of the world. I have yet to find a keyboard that's "virtually unusable". I see no big difference between typing on my PowerBooks keyboard, my iMacs keyboard, my old G4 Cubes keyboard and every other keyboard I have used.

Amen to that. I couldn't agree with you more.

Although I hate the new black keyboard on silver frame look they have going on, the keyboard itself is excellent once you get used to it. People don't like change, but its really not a big deal at all.
