The only cut out bit on mine is the silent switch, the volume keys are covered and have a + & - embossed over where they lay underneath.

Also I don't think that the Red tab is a magnet, it's kind of rigid and fits in there well though.

Sorry to hear you got a fake :-(

Meltdownblitz... sounds like its not an authentic one from 12 South. I found one as you described on ebay and it looks similar to the real deal except for the volume hole cutouts and the spine color. Hell if it works for you it works for you. I also have been seeing some non authentic BookBook's with a red spine. Its just a case after all and if people like the non authentic ones and save money more power to them. I have grown to love my BookBook more and more as time passes.

I just tried to get a 3rd replacement from amazon because the mute switch is hard to get to. Cutout is off center.

They refuse to send me another.
Looks like I will have to buy from manufacture.

I picked one of these up at the Apple Store last week and I absolutely love it. I hate keeping a wallet in my back pocket as it is, so this was perfect. At work it's on my desk or in a drawer, out of work, I usually wear cargo pants, so there's no awkward "book bulge." Plenty of room for my ID, debit card, and my insurance card with no deforming of the book. The cash pocket is a bit thin, but for someone who doesn't keep much cash in their wallet, it works fine for me.

People who have seen it love the look and feel of it. I'm pretty confident if I dropped the phone it would be protected from a drop. If you want water and drop resistance, this definitely isn't the case for you. I've got a Griffin Survivor case for when I go paintballing or airsofting, but for everyday use, this is fantastic and it looks good. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Regarding the mute switch, it is a bit close to the cutout in the un-muted position, but hardly a deal breaker.

I'd been wanting one for a while and finally splurged on it. Bought it yesterday but as soon as I opened the box I was unhappy because the threads in the front were all loose and messy. I didn't even try the case -- put it back and took it back to the Apple store the next day (today). Got another one and it was clean but the phone didn't quite fit well -- it was crooked (it's an eyesore esp. when you have a white iPhone) and I couldn't get to the mute switch at all when it was on the sound on side. So I went back again only about an hour after I got home and this time I was allowed to pick one out and open the box and try it on before I took it home. The one I got fits a lot better -- it has marks on the front and the Specialist there was worried I wanted a different one because of that but I didn't mind the marks because it's supposed to look like a worn out book. It took three tries but I really like the case. I hope other people have better luck on the first try :)

Def going to try this on for size before I buy one online to save TN 9.25% sales tax.
I wouldn't want a little whole in it but there are creative ways to overcome that dilemma. Why didn't they create a tab that could be slide over to reveal a whole for the camera? Like a bookmark? Make it look like the "book" had been patched? Soo many options, and it would have tripled their sales.

Do you guys leave your phones in the case all the time? Even at night and times like that?

I kind of want to have my phone naked when I'm at home and just put it in the case every time I go out but I'm not sure how much wear & tear this will add to it?

I looked as some of these cases, but a thought came to my mind when I did:

It's putting all your valuables in one place.

Having had my iPhone stolen recently in a snatch and run theft, I'd have lost both the phone and my wallet at the same time. I think it's better to keep them separate.

Just my 2 cents.

Do the In & Out all the time! No problems, the lining and leather is really soft - so no worries about hurting your precious iPhone ;)

Same here: in during the day, out at night. No wear & tear on the phone or the case. The outside of the case has gotten scuffed up (intentionally) which I think adds to the whole "old musty book, nothing to see here" effect.

Permanent smudge

After 4 months with the BookBook there's a permanent smudge across the screen of my iPhone. Kinda sucks. I'll edit with a pick in a few.

Quality Case - Procey, but worth it!!!

Bought mine from the Apple Store. Vintage look, top grade leather(smells great straight out of the box) and very practical!! With regards to security and losing your cards and wallet together - At least if you did misplace or have it stolen, you have half a chance of recovery using the Apple 'Find My Phone' application. I could always cancel my cards - but if my iPhone was lost.........:apple:

You know... I have had mine for several months and I too am noticing the screen smudging. I can clean it and then the minute I close the lid... there it is. Other than that I still enjoy this case. I guess I need to get a screen protector that doesn't stick to the ID plastic.

Link for more affordable (appears authentic) TwelveSouth BookBook

Hi all,
Just wanted to share: I recently purchased a TwelveSouth BookBook from eBay for significantly LESS than retail. I think it ended up being $12.99 +$9.99 s/h - so not bad, comparably :) I ordered mine last week and have had it for a few days and I LOVE it! Overall it appears legit and authentic (volume buttons are embossed - not cut out) and it doesn't have the pinkish binding that the ones from china seem to have.

I have uploaded pics as well if interested (plz let me know if they don't come out right- I'm new )

So far I have been keeping a credit card, a debit card, my ID, and student ID in it and haven't had any issues. I'm really debating on cutting a camera hole into it... If I do, I'll post pics and let you know how it turns out!

The link to the seller is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Twelve-Sout...Accessories&hash=item4ab4d9a053#ht_904wt_1183

eBay item number: 320861741139
Seller name: iappcasecare

Hope this helps out! I've been admiring these cases for a long time, so once I saw them for a deal on eBay - I jumped on it!

I just recieved mine off Amazon, feels legit, looks legit, the seller said it was legit, usually they will tell the truth. However I'm not positive. Does anyone know if the volume buttons on the real one is cut out? Because mine are cut out and I'm not sure that the red flap is a magnet, I guess one way to know is to visit a local apple store and check it out instore.

Hey, can you please tell me the name of the seller and is he from hong kong. I am about to order mine on Amazon. the seller is Accessoyon. He says its authentic.. m not sure. Please tell me the name of ur seller.

Like a fine wine.......

Had my BookBook (Original) now for about 3 weeks and I'm loving it.

Takes a bit of getting used to but well worth giving it time.

Yes, it does add some bulk to your pocket but if you were to put your phone and you wallet on top of each other and put them both in the same pocket you'll still be better off with the BookBook.

I was forever carrying all sorts of cr4p in my wallet with cards I hardly ever use. but the BookBook has made me a bit more slimline in what I carry in my wallet.

I agree this case isn't for everyone but if you fancy a break from the normal case (and wallet) give it a shot.

I purchased the cheaper option first to see if I liked it and how it felt in the pocket and once I was happy I picked up an original from my local Apple Store.

Putting the two side by side the cheaper option was close to the original but looking a little closer the original one stood head and shoulders above the cheaper one, not only on appearance but touch and smell.

Anyway thats just my opinion, some will love it and some...... not so much.

All the Best guys

Well, I'm late to the party but I just ordered this case/wallet online from the Apple store. After some 35 years of sitting on a big lump in my back pocket, I'm really looking forward to having the bare essentials combined in my front pocket.

Strangely, im excited about getting this, not often I've felt that way about a new phone case.

As I await the arrival of my case, I have a question that I didn't see in the previous pages.

With the ringer off, can you feel the vibration through the case in your pocket when you get a call? I'm used to a slimmer case where I can feel the vibrator on my leg.
