Does anyone know if this error message still shows up during Windows Vista startup, on the Mac Pro?

"Warning: Unrecognized partition table for drive 80. Please rebuild it using a Microsoft-compatible FDISK tool (err=4)."

I had the "unrecognized partition table for drive 80" error also, but it can be easily fixed by downloading easybcd (http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1). When you install it, use the program to recreate the master boot record. After you do that, the boot times will be much quicker and cleaner :)

download the disk iamge from the apple site. Then open up the disk image, control-click the "Install Boot camp assistant.mpkg" - Show package contents.

Then navigate through "Contents" to "Resources" find "BootCampAssistant.pkg" then control-click on that again and show package contents. Then go through "Contents" again and find "Archive.pax.gz" double click on that. It will extract it to a folder on your desktp called "Applications" Then go and find "Boot Camp Assistant in there. Control click and show package contents. Navigate through to Resources and find "DiskImage.dmg" in there. Double click on that to open it and copy the all the drivers out of there onto a USB stick and you should be able to install them in your windows partition.

Or you could update your boot camp assistant; run it and then choose "Save Mac Windows Drivers to Folder..." from the Utility menu...

:)

tap click?

can i tap the touchpad to click rather than having to press the button. that's all i want out of bootcamp.

I would not have thought that the Windows drivers in the Leopard beta are any more up to date than what has been released already. Why would they be? They do not affect the way OS X runs. About the only difference would be the partitioning utility and how that interacts with OS X, but the functionality will probably be the same.

Is anyone finding that Vista is running hotter again? It cooled down under the last BC update, now the left hand side of my MBP is noticeably warmer under Vista again.

i'm not installing it until i know that the ATi control panel is back so i can make my external 20" the primary monitor on windows as well as macos, without all the 1.3 problems of having to remove the standard one and install a custom x1600 driver.

What I ended up doing was to install the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI (7.7) which installs the Control Panel. BUT... there is a bug in the complete download so you either don't install the control panel or uninstall it then download and install the separate Control Panel archive. That got it up and running fine for me in Vista.

Has anyone with a Mac Pro installed Windows Vista yet, with the BootCamp 1.4 drivers?

I have a Mac Pro with Vista installed. I just updated BootCamp 1.3 to 1.4 and everything works fine. That is, of course, for a problem with my video. I still can't get the Mac Pro (or is it Vista?) to recognize my monitor if it's plugged in through DVI-D. I have to use the VGA adapter which sucks. The strange thing is once Vista has loaded I can switch to the DVI-D without any problem. It only happens during boot.

I had hoped this would have been fixed. Oh well...

heat issue?

I have the new iMac 20" running Vista home premium through bootcamp.

I've noticed that when i run Vista the back of the computer gets reasonably hotter than when i run OSX. Is this normal? Is running Vista overworking my computer and possibly harming it?

id say that bootcamp still hasnt been optimized with cooling and fan speeds etc, you might have to manually change the fanspeeds to keep the computer colder. i doubt that it will harm it though.

The fans are generally controlled by temperature monitors, no? Unless OS X has additional fan control features built in, but it definitely won't hurt your Mac as fans are temperature controlled anyway.

How does this install work? It doesn't seem to upgrade it for me, for I checked the Boot Camp version in Xp, it still says 1.3.

this may be true for osx, but when running in bootcamp it could be a completely different story. and could also do some damage to the computer if left on for too long.

No, the fans are controlled by temperature monitors in the hardware. Hence why you can put together a PC and the fans revs up and down depending on what the machine is doing and how much heat is being producing.

then why is the OP worrying about the computer getting hot?? obviously there isnt something right, the temps should be universal no matter what OS there is on the computer.

No, because OS X could have built in fan controls to allow for a cooling system that activates earlier or later or however they've set it up.

People seem to be paranoid about this with every boot camp version, but it's never been an actual issue.

you said that its done by the hardware, then u said that it depends on the OS because of how it monitors it. this kind of defeats the purpose of the hardware control in the first place, as the software ultimately controls when and for how long the fans change speed.

it is true that bootcamp will make your computer run hotter, it IS an issue.

Really? This method worked fine for me. And can't you just reactivate windows?

After applying the fix, did you check to see if your windows was still activated? And I can't re-activate it because it was auto-activated. I don't have a serial number.

No, there could be both hardware and software controls for it! Why is that hard to understand? OS X could have software controls built into it to allow Apple to ensure that their machines sound quieter. However, hardware controls are already built in.

See, this is why Apple does it:
"In fact, if one installs extra fans in a PC case, the noise levels can reach 70 dB. Since fan noise increases exponentially to fan RPM, reducing RPM by a small amount potentially means a better reduction in fan noise. This must be done correctly, as excessive reduction in speed may cause components to overheat and be damaged. If done properly fan noise can be drastically reduced."

Yeah, mine was activated. And how is it possible that your windows copy was auto-activated (and without a serial number?). You're not using a cracked version, now are you?

1.4 is newer than 2.0, which is included in the Leopard beta.

I haven't seen any version 2.0 drivers in the Leopard releases. Boot Camp Assistant 2.0, yes, but it doesn't have the drivers .dmg any more since the Leopard DVD is the new drivers disc.
