Would the Leopard version of Boot Camp work in Tiger?

You need to be clearer when you say "Boot Camp." If the set of v2.0 Boot Camp drivers were actually out, then you could use these on any Mac...it has nothing to do with your version of Mac OS X. However v2.0 of the Boot Camp Assistant will not work in Tiger, no. Its complied specifically for Leopard. As is stands right now, though, the latest version of the Boot Camp drivers is v1.4. Version 2.0 of the Boot Camp drivers does not exist currently (at least publically or to the developers) to the best of my knowledge.

No, there could be both hardware and software controls for it! Why is that hard to understand? OS X could have software controls built into it to allow Apple to ensure that their machines sound quieter. However, hardware controls are already built in.

See, this is why Apple does it:
"In fact, if one installs extra fans in a PC case, the noise levels can reach 70 dB. Since fan noise increases exponentially to fan RPM, reducing RPM by a small amount potentially means a better reduction in fan noise. This must be done correctly, as excessive reduction in speed may cause components to overheat and be damaged. If done properly fan noise can be drastically reduced."

software overrides hardware, ok then so why are they running so hot when runner via bootcamp>?< its not that hard to understand. why are they running hotter?? is it because of the case?? not enough cooling?
u answer me that

I'm fairly certain you're confused. When the OP is running OS X the machine will POSSIBLY* run cooler because OS X may have software to control the fan speeds enough to keep it cool yet quiet; however, when running Windows the controls don't exist and the hardware has to determine when to run the fans and it doesn't run them as fast until the machine gets slightly warmer.

* I say possibly because I've never noticed any difference when running Windows vs. OS X in terms of heat, and it seems that people get all paranoid and start thinking their machine will explode.

therefore while under windows the computer will run hotter, which is what i have found.

i have also found that wen under windows, like u said, there is no software cooling system (SCS :p), this meaning that the computer will run hotter. this would most likely b because hardware settings allow for higher temperatures.???

This is exactly what I've said the entire time.

I think you are missing the point slightly. The upgrade to 1.4 has broken something leading to noticeably higher temperatures under Windows. At 1.3 there was little discernable difference.

You've measured higher temperatures, then? As in...you actually did a test? Like perform some action(s) in 1.3, measure temperature, upgrade to 1.4, perform same action(s), notice actual increases in temperature?

Or are you just going about posting "well my laptop feels hotter to the touch! I think" such that poster so-and-so will then go about and claim is a widespread problem in Boot Camp 1.4 that'll melt your computer. Bringing legitimate, confirmed issues with hardware or software in the public's eye is great, and if that's truly what you're doing then I apologize for being harsh. If you're not, though, then stop spreading the manure.

(Sorry buddy, wrong post at the wrong time. Its not just you, this stuff is rampant all over the forum. Or maybe I just need some sleep.)

HUGE PROBLEM! Windows no longer bootable after updating the drivers. What can I do to fix it?

Melt your computer. Oh no and here I thought it was now aluminum :D Lets not get to bent.

Works Great

Downloaded it and updated my bootcamp on my SR 2.2 MBP. Everything works great and very happy about the keyboard backlight. Playing Company of Heroes and Command and Conquer 3 and both look amazing :D

If you have to add this rider to any post, perhaps it would be better to hold back on the "submit reply" button. :)

Just a thought.

you said that its done by the hardware, then u said that it depends on the OS because of how it monitors it. this kind of defeats the purpose of the hardware control in the first place, as the software ultimately controls when and for how long the fans change speed.

it is true that bootcamp will make your computer run hotter, it IS an issue.

Actually... the fans in Intel Macs are controlled by an onboard chip which is separate from the operating system. This means that as your mac gets hotter, no matter what the OS, then the fans will get faster.

However, OSX puts the processor into a lower power state than windows does when it is idle. This, coincidentally, is why the original MBP used only whine in OSX and not in windows.

Basically the point is that the fans run at the same speed regarding temperatures but the processor runs slightly cooler in OSX due to more aggressive speed-step/sleep states.

I cant imagine how sweet it would be to have OSX for all the windows machines out there. I hope this is a slow step towards someday taking on MS and the horrid vista beast that must be slain. I understand Apple sells hardware as well but the pent up demand for another OS besides windows would be like tidal wave if just one company would step forward with a viable alternative that average users can install and use.

Do you have an ATI card? I noticed that they don't ship the ATI display software with the Boot Camp CD... but you can google Boot Camp ATI Display Driver or something like that... there is a special version of the ATI Catalyst Control Center for Macs in Windows XP/Vista that will let you control external monitors, etc. properly.

Hope that helps...

I recently was looking for better graphics drivers (with more options) for my iMac (Early 2006 ATI x1600). I was on ATI's web page and I found them, they're different than the ones from Boot Camp 1.3.

Anyway, the ones off the ATI site are nice, it gives you the full Catalyst Control Center. I only saw the drivers for Windows XP but, if you click here you can see them. I installed the Video Driver first, restarted, then the Catalyst Control Center.

Just click 'Apple Boot Camp > Windows XP' and you get a list of Macintosh models.

One of the features I noticed (besides the different interface in the menus) is that there is a nice "Center Position" option. Which is very useful, it makes the image on the screen (with black bars around it) centered and doesn't stretch it when using lower resolutions. For example I was playing an old PC game at 1024x768, and it centered it fine. There were borders on the sides, but at least it didn't look blurred or stretched. I was very satisfied. :D

I wonder if Apple has the same drivers in the 1.4 version of Boot Camp as I found on the ATI web page. Maybe not though, they might just have the more simple stripped down version. At least that's the only version I've seen provided by Apple. Just thought I'd let you guys know. I found it very helpful. :)

so you're saying that osx will normally run cooler while idle, because osx clocks the mbp's clocks back to 1ghz??? windoze doesnt do this??

makes sense i suppose, thankyou for pointing this out!

Dear All

According to the guideline of XUKHACx, i can sucessfully extract the drivers from the boot camp 1.4 without upgrade it from 1.3 in mac osx. I copy all drivers files to a USB thumdrive. But i have problems on the installation of the new drivers in windows vista preimum.

When i run the setup.exe in windows vista preimum. Its has the following error message

"The window restart is pending, please try the installation again later "

Does anyone know what problems is it ?

Moreover, i also try to directly run the execution file of i-sight installer. But it do not have any response. Do i need to uninstall the i-sight driver firstly in the "ADD/remover programe" ?

My configurations are as follows :

MBP 2.2 MHZ, bootcamp 1.3b , windows vista preimum version

Please help.

Thank you very much

I've noticed that brightness/sound controls now have "Mac" indicators that show up on the screen and make the blip noise when the sound level changes. Also, Boot Camp is turning into a more mature control panel.

this is in 1.3 aswell...well the brightness doovie thingojagik watsi is.

has bluetooth support been increased?? my kb cuts out all the time

I want to use this opportunity to increase my boot camp partition size. Can this be done in the upgrade (1.3 -> 1.4) without erasing my files on the windows partition? It sort of hints that this can be done on apples info page, but you never know.
