Tip for anyone using the late 2006 iMacs (still under AppleCare, but don't let that stop them): USB support seems in some way questionable. Most noticeably, for me, the USB keyboard will not work after hibernation unless you wake up by pressing a key on the keyboard. But Windows 7 really is quite nice, and it does not periodically assassinate your machine unlike vista... I should build another workstation at some point in the next few weeks...
I already have Windows 7 on my mac using bootcamp. Except I said it was Vista. Do I have to do a reinstall if I want this upgrade. I really hate that red light that comes out of my audio port when I use bootcamp, and apparently this fixes that.
whats the big deal? I already have Win7 64 bit on my mac. It was slightly a pain in the ass to get working correctly, but it seems fine.. Will this add anything?

I wouldn't let Apple's 'official' support stop you - I have two clients running a variety of early core duo mac's on 7 32 bit using bootcamp 3.0's Vista drivers. You install them by right clicking the bootcamp installer, properties, click the compatibility tab, select Vista SP1 for the OS and tick the run as administrator box. Click apply then run it..

Yep, since Windows 7 requires that I actually give money to Microsoft (*shudder*) I think I'll be using XP on my Mac as long as possible. Though I find myself using it very rarely anymore anyway. Only one Windows-only app left in my quiver. Eventually an alternative will come along.

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my Mid 2009 MacBook Air. I couldn't install the 3.0 Boot Camp 64-bit as it wouldn't work in 64-bit as it said "not supported on this system." Apparently since Apple doesn't want to offer MBA users true 64-bit computing on OS X, so it doesn't want Windows 7 having an edge. Anyways, I went in and installed each driver manually from the 64-bit MBP driver set. Everything works except the display brightness and keyboard brightness.
I want to know if anyone knows if this new Boot Camp 3.1 will have drivers and work on an MBA with Windows 7 Professional in 64-bit platform?

Hmm, no support for the MacPro1,1? It's got a 64 bit CPU and SHOULD be able to run Windows 7 just fine.

What's with Apple orphaning still very capable hardware? I understand them dropping PowerPC support but this 2006 Mac Pro is still hella fast.

Ok installed the Bootcamp update and the new iMac 27" drivers on my iMac 27" i7. I had uninstalled my modified ATI Catalyst drivers. Rebooted, installed Apple drivers but I still have the issue that I only get 16 bit colors.
You get that as well? Or is it some left behinds from my modified ATI drivers?

Got the drivers deleted, now real 32 bit Apple/ATI drivers but freaking slow in "Dirt 2" menus. Are the Apple ATI drivers not the latest ATI drivers? My hacked ones worked better, just not 32 bit color.... Catalyst 9.10? Do you guys get that too? Up to date would be 9.12..*sighs* Apple....

i did a clean install of Win7 on an early 2008 MacBook (9400m)
Software Update does NOT offer this update to me
I wish it did because 2 things do not work
right click on the trackpad in any form (2 finger or command-click)

Macs and Windows are both cool. Why not use both? Use iTunes on your Mac and Office on your Windows.

I am currently not running any version of windows on my 15" macbook pro bought in early 2009. From the information I gathered it seems like I need windows running on my computer before installing this update, but that can't be correct. Can someone please clarify for me?

How do I install Windows 7?
First, use Software Update to ensure your computer's Mac OS X operating system, Boot ROM, other firmware and software are up-to-date before installing Windows 7.
You'll need both your Mac OS X v10.6 installation and Windows 7 installation discs. Here is the general process:
1. Install Windows 7 using the Boot Camp Setup Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities), which partitions your hard drive and walks you through the installation process. The process differs depending on whether you are performing a new install of Windows 7 or an upgrade install from an earlier version of Windows (see Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide for more information).
2. After completing the Windows 7 installation, install the Apple Boot Camp Windows drivers from your Mac OS X v10.6 (or later) Install DVD.
3. Upgrade the drivers to Version 3.1 with Windows Apple Software Update, or manually download them from here.

This is pretty ridiculous. They've shafted those with Mac Pro's and Macbooks that are stuck with EFI32 rather than updating the firmware to EFI64. Before any of you say it about the macbooks, yes it is one with the Core 2 Duo's. Lame apple, lame. This is the first time that I've really been upset with them for doing something dumb. Anyone know how to partition and install windows 7 w/o bootcamp?

I didn't realize Microsoft was providing the drivers for Apple's hardware.
I did mention a clean installation.
I see that there's more than one driver package now. Thanks. Not that the BootCamp 3.0 drivers haven't been working perfectly under Windows 7.
Just installed the Boot Camp update on the latest MBP 15" (2009) on Windows 7 64 bit.
"Pros":
-Fixes the digital audio red light issue, sound seems a bit louder at max (but still not as loud as on OS X).
-Tap to click actually works now and isn't super sensitive, but...
Cons:
-Tap to click absolutely does not work if you're resting your thumb on the trackpad. Worthless fix if you're not going to account for the resting thumb on the single button trackpad. There's nowhere else to put it!
-Still doesn't fix the always-on back-lit keyboard.
Why they can't just fix the trackpad issue once and for all...

OK, I've been waiting since Win7 came out for this update and now I don't know WTF to do with it. (BTW, unibody 13" Macbook running 10.6.2 and Win 7 64-bit).

The trackpad works horribly tracking-wise and there is no multitouch going on so I can't right click on anything without using a mouse. None of the special buttons work so I can't use the keyboard to adjust screen brightness, eject CDs, or dim the display. No iSight either (not that I've ever used it). All this stuff worked in XP.
So Apple only has "updates" on their site, and the version of Bootcamp that came on the 10.6 install DVD refuses to run whatsoever. The 3.1 update doesn't do anything but update the NVidia display drivers, and those were already working perfectly.
I need to right click, man!
