all those sudo design thingy just open up terminal and paste it in. however im also facing the same problem. boot camp cant be opened up after editing the plist :-/ i'm stuck.

----------

i also had the same problem: boot camp not opening up after editing the info.plist. what i did was just place back the original plist into the folder and it opened right up. hope this helps

Type this into the terminal to fix the crash:
Code:
sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

----------

wait what, care to elaborate?

what´s all that sudo/codesign stuff? where do i do that? how?

i don´t understand. i did what falkas posted but bootcamp doesn´t open up. i suppose you have the solution to make it work on mavericks, however i don´t understand how to do it.

cheers

That's a code you type into terminal. When you change the plist file, it breaks the code signature: an authorisation that allows the app to run on your system. This code invokes a new code signature on your hacked bootcamp version :D

Bootcamp 4.0.1

Hi, i was looking on this thread to find a solution to this problem, it turns out i had a dmg file of the Lion install disc so i copied and installed the bootcamp version from that file, it's version 4.0.1 and this didn't come up with the 64 bit version message for me.

if anyone wants this i will upload it somewhere, just let me know

Hey guys, thank you so much! it works!!!

But I had to do an extra thing:

When I copied the second code line, a message popped out saying that I had to install some kind of apple software in order to use ...mmm i can't remember what :D.

When the installation finished, I opened the terminal and re-copied the SECOND code line sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

and everything was solved =)

Thank you!

Thank you very much!

This was very helpful, very easy to do and went perfectly smoothly!

Also I must say that I searched a lot for this kind of procedure and this is the only place I found it.

I will write here some tag reference in italian for other italian user can find this thread. Thank's again.

Installare Windows 7 da un disco multi versione con Bootcamp.
Sbloccare Bootcamp quando non riconosce un disco multiversione.
perche' bootcamp mi dice che non ho windows 64 ?

ciao

Hey guys,

I finally managed to get the usb with my windows 7, but bootcamp does not detect it =(

Does anyone know how could I fix it?

I have a macbook air mid 2013, mavericks and I'm trying to install windows 7 (a lite version) through bootcamp.

thank you so much.

Edit: Nevermind-- I didn't put the edits at the TOP of the array in the plist.

Very relevant thread (and oddly enough unique as far as I can tell). Would it be possible to:
- Summarise the commands to type (for us non technical users)
- Confirm that win7 install is working afterwards

I find unbelievable that Apple is not fixing this issue better than that.

Followed these instructions on my Late 2013 27" iMac and when it was copying the files half way through it gave me an error that it could not be created =\

Your bootable USB drive could not be created
An error occurred while copying the Windows Installation files.

This happened with the modified Info.plist workaround and also the bootcamp 4.0 jlsolomon posted above.

I have Win7 x64 on a USB 3.0 Flash Drive and also on a DVDRL on my superdrive, both when loaded bluetooth keyboard and mouse doesn't work and my usb/mouse doesn't work either.

I have no idea why you want to use BCA 4 and this thread doesn't apply to your situation. You have a Win 7 64-bit installer and it should work fine with Boot Camp 5 under Mavericks although I've read before that USB 3.0 flash drive may cause problems during installation.

Why don't you just download the x64 ISO from here and do a vanilla boot camp install http://techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-servers/

BCA 5 is not working right, there's a 64bit ISO on the desktop and the DVD on superdrive as well and BCA5 still saying it needs 64bit.
This applies to me because people here have win7 x64bit iso and its still displaying that message

What people are you referring to? This whole thread is about people who used hybrid 32-bit/64-bit Windows installer (BTW which isn't official) when Boot Camp 5 only supports 64-bit Windows 7 on certain Mac models. This is a problem only because 32-bit options are listed first and that's how BCA code sees it. In your particular case, your Mac only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 and if you are using an official 64-bit DVD installer or use an official 64-bit download ISO as suggested previously, it doesn't apply to you. If you still think it does, then go do whatever you believe it's right for you. Good luck.

I understand, but this also helped those with 64-bit DVD Installer or ISO and weren't able to move from that screen message display must use a 64bit. And thanks, didn't mean to say you were incorrect by any means just that it worked in my situation as well.

I've just done this on Yosemite as I can't get Parallels to work and need a Windows installation for my job.

My ISO is also a dual x86/x64 and Boot Camp Assistant really doesn't like it.

I edited the plist file and the app wouldn't open. Then I re-signed the plist file and the app file and this loaded perfectly.

I have had no issues with the file and am now at the point where my HDD will be repartitioned.

So far so good, I'm glad there are a lot of people on here with technical knowledge else I'd have been stuck. Many thanks.

The other posts have good advice. I know this is a couple months later and it might not help the original poster out, but it could help someone in the future.

It is possible to use the Windows 7 ISO with both x86 and x64 on the same install file. Bootcamp 5 will see this as a x86 install file though and won't allow it to continue. To fix this just follow these steps.

1. Open a Finder window.

2. Navigate to Applications>Utilities

3. Control Click or Right Click on Boot Camp Assistant and select "Show Package Contents"

4. Open the Contents folder

5. Drag the file "info.plist" to your desktop (I also recommend saving it in another place as well in case you want to revert to the original)

6. Open info.plist on your desktop with a text editor

7. Find the field labeled as below:
<key>32BitSupportedModels</key>
<array>
<string>MacBook7,1</string>
<string>MacBookAir5,2</string>
<string>MacBookPro10,1</string>
<string>MacPro5,1</string>
<string>Macmini5,3</string>
<string>iMac12,2</string>
</array>

8. Time to find what your Mac is. Click the Apple in the top left hand corner and select About This Mac
-Click More Info...
-Click System Report...
-Under Hardware Overview, look for Model Identifier and copy it

9. With your Mac's Identifier copied, go back to your open info.plist file create a string at the TOP of the entries. So if your Mac identifier was "iMac13,2" then it would look like this:
<key>32BitSupportedModels</key>
<array>
<string>iMac13,2</string>
<string>MacBook7,1</string>
<string>MacBookAir5,2</string>
<string>MacBookPro10,1</string>
<string>MacPro5,1</string>
<string>Macmini5,3</string>
<string>iMac12,2</string>
</array>

10. Save and close info.plist. Drag info.plist back into the Contents folder and select replace. (You may have to authenticate and enter your admin password).

11. Start Bootcamp and it should allow you to use your Disk/USB with both versions. I wouldn't recommend installing the x86 (32 bit) version of Windows 7, but this will allow you to get to the point of the installation to select x64 (64 bit) if you have an ISO file with both 32 bit and 64 bit combined. Hope this helps.

Hi

I have done the above. Boot camp can't open after (Macbook air early 2014)

The weird thing is that I have Windows 64bit boot on a usb but bootcamp doesn't recognize it as a 64 bit version...

Weird. Make sure BootCamp is not open. Then do edit the file as indicated. Once done, open the info.plist file again from the Contents folder, and check if changes were actually applied. It may be some permissions issue with your text editor or copying on Finder.

Once you make sure changes are indeed being applied on the file, open Bootcamp again and try.

Hi,

I tried the fix suggested by Falkas, by opening info.plist and adding the string line and saving the file and dragging it back to the content folder. Now bootcamp assistant doesn't even open. It says "bootcamp assistant quit unexpectedly". It doesn't even open when I remove the line from info.plist. It seems that text editor has added some sort of a header to the file. Any ideas on what plain text encoding to use?

Thanks in advance

This sounds almost do-able. One question: how do you open something with a text editor?
