Am I the only one around here who hates streaming and prefers to own the music?

Not to put too fine a point on it...

I thought I'd seen things in the wild and wooly world of UX-hiring phrased every which way, but this wins.

Also, it's hilarious because if this recruiter doesn't realize that the fish she/he is trying to snag from all the streaming companies they list - if significant enough a hire - is going to have a non-compete ten miles long, well...ROFL.

Also they are even more of a dummy because often the UX hire working in the same industry is too damn close to it. In other words, they could pull a GREAT UX designer from say - finance, gaming, video, etc. and have a better hire.

God I hate recruiters. (Sorry, recruiters).

"HAVE YOU HELD A SIMILAR JOB AT A COMPANY IN THE SAME INDUSTRY?

If not, then this job is not for you and there is no need for you to reply. The company will not hire you."

"You get a streaming service. You get a streaming service. And you get a streaming service. EVERYBODY GETS A STREAMING SEVICE!"

Unfortunately, you're a part of a dying breed. I, too, loved purchasing my own music for years, until the price was raised above the psychological upper limit of 99¢ for many songs, and until I got bored of listening to my own music over and over. I prefer streaming now simply for the variety.

The only way this works is if the price is less than any other streaming service. Right now, the market is so saturated, and every product is, let's face it, the exact same. The only way to differentiate is to lower the price.

Apple should have purchased Bose. When I think of Apple, I think of Bose (quality product). When I think of Beats by Dre, I think of Android (cheap product). Also, Apple could have used Bose to integrate into the living room with there home theatre systems. BTW, where are the 12 days of Christmas from Apple this year? Guess they did away with that to pay for stupid Beats by Dre.

Read my post earlier in this thread. Bose isn't for sale and will probably never be for sale unless MIT just wants to give it's majority ownership to Apple. You can't buy something that can't be sold. The only way Apple gets Bose is if the private corporation goes broke and the stock becomes worth nothing to MIT.

Bose could probably have an increased subscription fee due to their market audience, perhaps $20-$30/month range, or even more. This could lead to higher label participation as well as a potentially viable business model. (other streaming services are not likely to last, due to expensive licensing fees sucking up all profits)

The number of people who own Bose is comparatively small vs the entire market. The number of Bose owners who want to use streaming services is a smaller subset of the original group. Of those, owners willing to pay $20-30 a month to stream the same music as someone on Spotify/Beats/All Access is even smaller. Apple probably has the most brand loyal company customers of any company in recent history and I seriously doubt even Apple fans would pay $20-30 just to listen to Apple branded streaming. So Bose wouldn't stand a chance.

More OT: Not sure why Bose would even consider a streaming service. They are not exactly the brand you think of when you think of music. Home Theater? Yeah maybe. But definitely not music.

Get ready for another mediocre streaming service from another mediocre headphone company.

And yes, Bose headphones are mediocre and terribly overrated. The only thing I would recommend from them is their noise cancelling headphones, but even those are overpriced and the sound quality isn't that good.

Hit that same issue a bit myself. Of course I have my favorite songs yet I can't just keep playing the same stuff over and over again. Use you tube a bit for those who post their music. Paid steaming is not as good for those who are a bit more erratic with how often they play music.

Same can be said for movie collections, need variety.

PS: Bose is just as bad as Beats when it comes to all brand and no substance. I suppose it technically would not have made a difference which one Apple bought out.

I don't understand these comments. I want to get my girlfriend headphones this year, but I didn't know which one she'd like. So while we were at target the other night I convinced her to try on some different demo units. None of them were really impressive to her until she tried on the Bose QuietComfort 25 Headphones. I could tell by her face that she really liked them. When I tried them on I was really impressed. It was amazing how you could turn the volume down low but the sound fill the space around you.

Then I go online and I read comments like this. Bose and Beats are both bad? That's pretty much the only two brands big box stores have. When I visit forums people like to talk about how Bose and Beats are only worth a 1/4 of their price. So, ok, fine. Who exactly makes comparable headphones, with either a store to try them or solid return policy, where I can get a better deal?

I am also working on a streaming music service. Everybody I know also has their own personal streaming music service. Getwiddit

High Def?

Everyone's working on a streaming service but whose rocking the High Def one? If you can get the (mainstream) record companies to agree to that service (and not just suppliers of unknown/unwanted titles) then the other services will be left behind.

Best thing about all these streaming services is that the customer should win. The players need to distinguish themselves, so high def streaming should be right around the corner.

Hopefully!!

Try some Sennheisers next time. I'm not telling you to buy them, just try them. Any pair.

Audio Technica is a great brand as well, for a fraction of the price.

For the record, I use a bose soundlink mini speaker and Quietcomfort 15's on flights, busses and subways so I don't have a bias or anything.

I'm with you for the most part, but used CDs are actually a pretty great deal -- you can rip them any way you want. Hard drives being as cheap as they are, I now rip Lossless and have iTunes send downsampled versions to my phone. Wish I'd had the foresight (and budget) to do that years ago when I originally ripped a few hundred CDs at what now seems like a ludicrously low bitrate :/

Lot of people use their noise canceling headphones and clock radios.

They're quite expensive, and Bose would likely incorporate streaming prices as part of those products.

Yeah! Because Spotify, iTunes Match, Netflix, and Hulu just weren't enough streaming services for me. Bose should stick to hardware... Personally, I love my SOL Republic X2s. Crazy good sound for under $200.

Nope. I'm not sure I'd go so far to say that I hate it, because it's definitely nice to throw on some iTunes radio when I'd like to hear some new tunes, but I enjoy being able to always have access to the songs that I listen to way too much.

maybie..

Streaming has its advantages and disadvantages, but the convenience is there if you want it (and being charged monthly for it too, or yearly)

But regardless of what streaming is available even all of them pulled together, there are still missing gaps to fill (particular content is just not available on any of them)

I guess this is where downloads come in...... but then you'd just end up with a carrying round a huge music collection of hard drive (probably a second had drive since the first is your backup)... why bother

I guess the streaming outweights everything else. but if your really keen on to fill "those missing gaps" then u may find it better needing to hook a HD into your mac's usb port every time u want x song...

Bose won't be unlike any other...... But if their like Pandora,, i'm not interested anyway, since who listens to radio now-days.

Why? cause I love Apple, and if they were going to buy a headphone company I wish it was the one I use, Bose.

I like showing off the apple logo.

There's a reason they give you tons of Apple stickers every time you buy a new Mac...

They are both not bad. Granted, Beats is expensive for the quality they deliver, but people are also interested in style, brand and what they project when they own these headphones. Everyone has their reasons.

You shouldn't let yoursef be confused by the comments here. There are a lot of people here that think everyone needs to be an audiophile or that need to convince everyone that their headphones deliver superior sound quality for a better price. But they forget that is not what everyone is looking for.

So go into a big box store and try them out. Also go into an audio store and try some more expensive (and the cheaper!!) ones. The truth of the matter is that most people have crap quality music on their iPhones and an audiophile quality set of headphones would not make a difference to a Beats in terms of experience. Buy what you think sounds the best and don't be confused by the Bose vs Beats vs Audiophiles nonsense.

Edit: what Dannyyankou is saying a few posts above
