Here is the receipt. I blacked out personal info, serial numbers and removed the barcode at the bottom so someone can't copy my receipt. Believe it or not, up to you. Does not change my life. Like I said before, I am not some troll that came in with bogus info. Just thought I would share. I would not have even posted my original thread if I saw the other emails about Steve Jobs not price matching to prevent this. I was on the fence about even posting the receipt, but I do not like my credibility being called into question.

But, flip side, it has been proven in the past that there have been Fake Steve Jobs emails. Even to the point of credible newspapers running stories from it. Everyone is quick to believe these as fact for some reason.

I don't see why this is so difficult to believe. Even if Steve Jobs himself issued the directive "DO NOT PRICE MATCH TJ MAXX" (which is very well possible), how many dozens of Apple Stores are there in the US? How many hundreds of employees? How long do you think it will take for the instructions to reach each and every store, manager, and employee?

Everywhere I have ever worked or volunteered, whenever there's a process to be followed (or a change to an existing process), no matter how many memos or directives or emails or signs were sent out, there is always that one guy who says "Oh? I didn't know..." I've been there. I'm sure you all have too.

That somewhere, out there, is an employee who didn't know (or was not yet told) that they should not price match TJ Maxx? Sure, I believe it. The OP got really lucky. The store may or may not be in trouble. But it's certainly not impossible.

Congrats OP ... now that you have put up ... the doubters can shutup and eat some crow.

cheers ... sweet deal

Apple doesn't price match, especially from NON-AUTHORIZED retailers (Steve Job even replied to an e-mail about those prices).

Didn't happen.

Here's the thing, I saw the email that Jobs replied saying they wouldn't price match. And yes, I do believe you and trust you, but just to prove it you should post an image of the invoice receipt.

It's easily resolved, no? Just post a scan of the receipt! :D

no picture of the receipt, it never happened

Ding!

Didnt happen

If you went to the South Hills Village store, I can see them doing that. I love that store; they're known for being easy about giving replacements.

Can you post the receipt?

That's a black Friday deal and I'd guess they only have a few anyways.. no way Apple price matched that! No one at Apple would do this and anyone who could have made a mistake wouldnt have the authority to change the price.

I think someone just came in and told a story to rile everyone up. Especially since the TJ Maxx fine print says Limit ONE Per Person, even if you are lucky enough to find a store that has a single iPad. Even *if* Apple did match it. Since Maxx says one, there's no way they'd match two at that price. They're also being held until Black Friday. I call shenanigans.

I bought 10 of them

please show us your online receipt. I'm calling BS

Here is the receipt.

Any more questions?
Kudos to the OP for hanging with this and not losing your cool
And congrats on a sweet deal
It may not have been authorized, but I have a feeling your attitude made it work

Dude, that is most excellent. And, well done on not losing it with some other folks here who questioned it.

Giving a discount is easier than you think. When I worked for the airlines, I always had the option of not charging for luggage if I felt like it. It all depends on the attitude of the customer. If they were nice, I cut them some slack, if they were jerks, I boned em like I owned em.

Congrats on getting a very good deal.

The only problem I have is, if you don't like a post or believe it....move on. I knew I would get slammed ahead of time, but still posted anyway because I like to help others. I got an incredible deal (more lucky than I realized at the time) and thought someone else could try the same.

Would Apple price match non-Apple items they sell in-store and other electronics stores?

Yes. They did that for the EyeTv I bought. Elgato had it cheaper on their website and they matched it.

Congrats OP,

I love it when the haters end up with egg on their face with all their hateing. Haters are quick to comment but when the proof is in their face, then they go back into hiding.

Congrats again man, GREAT DEAL!!!

congrats on getting such a sick deal. quick question if some one could answer this for me, on the receipt it says $.01 for a set up fee. what exactly does that entail. cant figure it out. thanks in advance, Lloyd

I have no idea. I did not ask because I did not look at the receipt until I posted it here. I was not sure if he discounted wrong and added the penny back or if he gets credit for something. I can ask next time I am there.

My brother in law went today and got the deal. I am getting another one later today just cause the wife and kids like it too.

Want to get one for me and sell it to me?
I have called every iPad-selling store within 50 miles and no one will price match. After seeing this thread, I called my local Apple store. No one will do it without a printed ad from TJ Maxx. :( :( :(

That's for personal set up... That's when the specialist will guide you through a set up for your brand new iPad. You open it there and then in the store, if you bought a case to go with it you open that too and your iPad is activated.

They scan a barcode for personal set-up that registers as .01 cent, you should see a penny discount applied as well making it truly free. Something about a barcode having a figure attached to it as per the system, and Apple is just keeping track of when they perform a personal set-up, nothing more.

Enjoy! :)

I used to buy the wii and sell it pn bay and make profit, I wonder if about 60 to 80 bucks above the 400 they are at is worth obeying and going through the hustle or will u just come out woth pocket change even if sold new like I mentioned for say 580 on eBay?

TO be fair I got a awesome deal because I called Apple and told them i wanted to return it and get it at Macmall the refunded 200.00 and 100.00 GC on a MBA

Sorry. I would gladly do it, but there is too much involved including shipping. Plus, I think the Apple store would probably cut me off or I would get hit with tons of requests. Not enough profit to make it worth it.

I was originally going to use the Twitter feed from TJ Maxx as the printed ad and show them all the different forums proving the price, but they did not need it. Twitter was the only official ad, so that should work if they need something printed. Also, if you have them call TJ Maxx, they do confirm the price even if the store does not have them. See if you can get them to call the store if the Twitter feed and the different forums (Engadget, Macrumors, Gizmodo) does not work. Try showing them this post with receipt. Maybe that will work also?

I got one more tonight (last one for me). Same guy who helped me the other night. He said they are only matching the price for a couple days only.
