Early Upgrade price is B.S.!!!
You not only have to pay pretty much double then what it would be with a 2 year upgrade, you have to pay 60 bucks tax (they tax it on full price) AND a 20 dollar upgrade fee. If you wanna fork out 100 bucks more than you think, go ahead and to early upgrade. I'm going to wait until the next iPhone AFTER the 4G comes out. I think the 4G is ugly, and looks like something a cheap phone brand would produce.
The shape is alot like the Samsung Eternity, which I did have at one point.

I agree with you that early upgrade is BS...but I am not sure about the fact that 4G is ugly nor cheap. Some people have the money and do not care about an extra $100 or $200.

I'm on the older 3G iphone, and still not sure if I'll upgrade. So far all of the speculations point to a higher res display, dual cameras, and probably multitasking. Given that Skype might be expensive over 3G and no price plans yet for international calls, I'm not even sure I'll really benefit from multitasking much. Skype might not even support the front facing camera yet. I'm still not sure if the new iphone has better battery life than the 3G or 3GS.

I'm waiting this one out to see if the upgrade is worth it. If it's just minor updates (speed, resolution) over the 3GS it might not be worth it. But maybe they have something up their sleeve like Outlook, 20 hour battery, or something crazy that will make the upgrade worth it.

wow....clearly you are a vista dude and not a mac dude.

And when did the date of eligibility changed?

Sometime within the last two months, probably more like within the last month. I wish I had noted the date, but I didn't realize it happened until I read the buzz on the internet about many people having their date changed. My prior date was 11/20 iirc. Wish I could give you more info!!

Thanks a lot ...I just want to confirm if you are paying around $100 on each line or not ?

I've had every iPhone so far close to the launch date, but the 4th Gen doesn't excite me that much. I think the 3GS is rock solid and a great phone. I'm eligible in Dec, so I'll most likely just wait till then.

Hmmm, I really don't pay attention to the bill since I'm on autopay. Let me break it down so I'll have a clear idea too!

70--Family Plan 700
60--2 3GS data plans
30--Unlimited family texting
10--Additional phone for The Boy

$170 plus an irritating amount of taxes and surcharges put my bill well over $180 a month. Let me know if you need any more info or if this isn't clear!

That should put you at just about $100. $70 on your line, and $30 for your data.

Then would that make it unusual to have both lines ok'd for full discounted upgrades at the same time, even though I bought them both at the same time? It seems that would make it more likely that only one have a date change and not both.

Oddly, yesterday I spoke with two other people who each have the idential plans and add-ons we have, and both bought in the first week of the 3GS launch. When I mentioned that I was leaning toward upgrading next month, neither of them had phones on their respective accounts eligible for upgrade. All four of the other iPhones still had the November dates. I can't figure the logic behind the date changes.

Yep, and what about adding in the $30 unlimited family text plan, total $130? On a family talk plan, I assume that the primary line will always be more $ and always have the soonest upgrade eligibility date?

That should put you at just about $100. $70 on your line, and $30 for your data.

Upgrade Eligibilty Date changed ...Check yours !!

Hey Guys,

My upgrade eligibilty date has changed from 11/19/10 to right now !! I can upgrade to an iPhone at the discounted price !!!
I bought my 3GS on launch date and bought a 3G for my wife at the same time. Hers still says 02/11 maybe because it is the secondary line.

Just curious if this has happened to anyone else....so I logged into my att account to see that I was now eligible for upgrade, it gave me the discounted 199 rates for the 3GS....just logged back in and it still says im eligible for upgrade but the 199 rate for the 16 3gs is now 399...I went to the apple site to check my upgrade and it says the apple servers are down and cant check iphone eligibility, is this why?

edit: just checked again and its back to 199....weird.

Same here! I honestly think the new iPhone is going to be available by this upcoming Friday.

wow Thanks yeah i am able to upgrade with a new 2 year contract.. I am so happy i was bout to pay 199 plus 200 for early upgrade...REALLY happy now

There's a long running thread here discussing this, no need to create a new one discussing the same exact subject

WTF? Mine says it will not be eligible until 2/20/2011! I bought my 3GS on launch day and my wife has an iPhone as well. Are your plans over $100 per line? Mine is only $80 per line, that could be the problem. I really want the new iPhone and I am not happy at all with the Evo 4G. Any ideas? Hopefully they are announcing Verizon Iphones today and I could end my contract with AT&T for under $175!!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Nexus One Build/EPE54B) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

Fwiw I noticed the same thing on my account. I can now upgrade to the new iphone

I do NOT have a family plan.
I do NOT spend more than $100 per month on my plan.

Still, just this weekend, my eligibility for upgrade changed and I am now eligible to upgrade my phone with a new 2 yr contract and $18 fee (previously it said I had to wait until September)

So it seems that even single phone plans paying less than $100 per month are getting early eligibility for iPhone upgrades!

No you can't. The early termination fee for AT&T is now $325.
