But iris gpus are already on the market?

Yes Haswell Iris is on the market since fall 2013. Broadwell Iris was "launched" yesterday, but won't be available before the end of Q1 apparently. This is what Anandtech says:

Intel is expecting OEM systems with Broadwell-U to start shipping in North America within the month. Designs with Iris graphics, or those featuring Intel based WiGig connectivity, will be more towards the end of Q1. Overall Intel is tracking ‘hundreds of designs’ involving Broadwell, indicating that it will be a significant push to bring 14nm to the market.

My advice (and my opinion only).

If it's your first Mac, enjoy what you have.

There will always be something nicer coming down the line later on. Don't worry about it.

Welcome to the "Mac side of things!"

Do you guys think the broadwell mbp is worth the wait in my situation?

No, I would say keep what you have.

I have a Late 2013 13" rMBP (the one you just bought) as my work machine (I work in a research chem lab) and it's rock solid. I use it for light to moderate work; everything from web browsing and writing papers etc to running a VM for various windows-only science tools and it is more than capable and will be for a few years to come.

Battery life is excellent, performance is also excellent. Given that we have no idea when the Broadwell refresh will arrive and what we understand about the performance delta vs the current Haswell I don't think it's worth waiting.

honestly, you have to get used to a faster version of your laptop coming out within 6 months.
BUT these broadwell chips offer a lot, so if you're willing to wait another 4-5 months then may be worth it if you need the extra battery life and horsepower.

Thanks for all your input guys. I'll probably keep it as it is good enough for me even tough better battery life and graphics would be nice I'm not going to wait another half a year for it. Just wish I would have bought it with the back to school deal instead of waiting for broadwell for half a year and then still buy the same old model, but **** happens :D

Can you wait until 2nd (or maybe even 3rd qtr) 2015? That's really the bottom line, if you can hold off buying one until summer, then do so, otherwise enjoy what you have.

Its doubtful that your current computer will last less time, then a broadwell based. The performance of today's computers are well beyond what most consumers need imo.

Agreed... I got my Pro the other day.

I could have waited... but didn't see a point. The machine will do all I need it to do and then some...

I would keep it. People tend to freak out just because the "performance" is XYZ better.

I mean seriously these computers work so great Apple is probably struggling to find ways to improve it.

All they keep doing is thinner, longer battery, lighter. I mean does it browse the web? Does the email work? Is it pretty fast?

OK then. Keep it.
