I traded in the i5 MBP. Apple only offered $400 and BB $800. I clearly told the clerk it was an i5 but perhaps a mistake was made and so when I came back with my unit they had to honor what she said. However I had to drive almost 2 hours away to get the unit configuration I wanted. I don't want a porch pirate to steal my unit since I work days.
Got it. There's both a 13" 2020 AS MBP and a 13" 2020 Intel MBP, hence the confusion.

BB''s offical trade-in value for the 13" 2020 i5 MBP varies from $575 for 8 GB/256GB to $800 for 16GB/1TB so, depending on the config you actually had, $800 may or may not have been the correct price.

I traded my wife's mid 2019 intel MBA 8/256 today, for $400. It was a bit of a pain since the first store offered $0 (since they could not find it in their system, despite having the original box with BB stickers on it!) . I went home, found it in their system, and saved it to my account, and a BBstore 20 minutes away with competent personnel processed it quickly. We purchased her 8/512 M2 MBA earlier this month. it was $75 more of a trade value than Apple offered.

Unfortunately for my 8/512 M1 MBA there is no trade value listed at BB's US website for any MBA's for 2020 or 2021 (the Canadian site does have one, so clearly the US site is just out of sync. ) They do have 2020 and 2021 trade values for MBP's. just not the MBAs. I was looking to snag a 15 inch MBA 16/512 open box, but it seems as if I will end up with Apple's trade value if I want to go in that direction, perhaps a trade on a refurb. Very odd that BB doesn't have a trade in option for the M1 or M2 MBAs.

Mine was 16GB/1TB. Strange why apple would only give me $400.

Next time have it delivered to an access point near your home so you’re not driving 2 hours. I do this every time I order expensive electronics.

Yeah--with UPS, FedEx, and USPS, there's the option to have them instead deliver it to a secure location of your choosing.

E.g.:

Yes but then I wanted it the same day. The store 2 hours away only had (1) available so I had to buy it fast. If I had to order I would have done this.

FEDEX/UPS/Post Office sometimes make mistakes as they have delivered packages I have ordered to other peoples houses and I had to go to their porch and take my package. Yeah I probably was on video but if they had called the cops I would have just said it was my package.

The title of your post got me thinking.
Why do Apple call their laptops 13", 15" and 16" ?
Now obviously its a reference to screen sizes but, here's the rub.
America is the only country in the world that relies on inches , the rest of us use the metric system, because its easier. Apple is an international company, it tries its best to sell in every country on the planet, so why does it reference a largely complicated and unhelpful system of measurements in its products?
Because Apple is an American company.

Many times when poor battery life is reported it can be traced to someone using a very high screen brightness. If this is you, set your brightness to just under 50% and watch your battery life increase dramatically.

For reference, I use my 13” M2 MacBook Air for work 100% on battery power. I’m a software developer and I can go 8-9 hours and still have 30% battery left at the end of the day. And my battery health is only at about 90%.
Yeah, I boosted my brightness slightly above default, but it's still below 50%. But I didn't make any "save battery" changes in any energy settings, so who knows.

"the rest of us use the metric system"

Where are you from that laptop display sizes are marketed in metric?

I ask because, from everything I've seen, the global standard for display measurement continues to be Imperial. E.g., consider Samsung's French website. Here we have a South Korean company selling in the EU. Doesn't get much more international than that. Yet they're still using inches:

I traded in my 2020 MBP to Best Buy and got $800 allot more than apple would have given me. I will miss the touch bar but at least now I am on apple silicon and will get upgrades for at least the next 5 years. Yes when the M6 and M7 are out apple may phase out upgrades for the M2 units. 16GB RAM, 1TB drive.
Very sensible upgrades. The same I'd get for personal use. A pity it's practically obligatory to pay to upgrade the thing, of course.

Congrats! I just got my first MacBook Pro a few weeks back, base 14” M3 Pro in Space Black.

With the M3 right around the corner?
Maybe OP has personal reasons. I've experienced that as well.
I bought my M1 MBA on May 2022, two months away from M2 MBA 13, because my beloved MacBook 12" was broken and I was already fed up with my office laptop (Windows 10, i5, 8GB RAM ProBook). Despite that, I haven't had any regrets nor remorse even today.

Are we talking Air? Congrats on your purchase! I went with the 13" Air for the sake of mobility and a plethora of cases/bags/etc that I already own, and I'm more than happy with it ... but the real estate of a 15" ... enjoy!

It still is not a computer to carry around like an iPad but still portable enough for travel. Don't use it on a domestic flight as it may be too big for the small table. I use an ipad for such flights anyways. This is for personal use. Sadly most companies run on Windows so if I had a job requiring me to have a laptop, the company would issue it and it would sit in my room unused except at work.

Or you could buy Parallels

Just think of it as a moniker rather than a size.

The iPhone 15 isn't the 15th iPhone, just like the 15" MBA isn't actually 15".

It is just marketing.
