Bought a Galaxy S3 and am not crazy over it. Should I get the iPhone 5 or wait?

Get whatever you prefer. You can't really go wrong with either. I'm not sure if I'd bother waiting considering the 5s will probably just be a spec bump and retain the same form factor. iOS 7 will be what sees the biggest improvement my opinion.

Have to say a big thing I miss is iMessage integration. Like being able to message from my iPad, Mac, and iPhone all together.

I'd wait for the next iPhone if I were you :)

I know it's horrible waiting, but at the same time, you'll know the next iPhone will be an amazing phone with fantastic build quality, as always from Apple.

Even if someone offered me a straight up Galaxy S3 for iPhone 5 trade?

Hmmm. Maybe you should accept the offer and see how you like the iPhone 5. When the next iPhone comes out, if you really like the look of it, you can sell your iPhone 5 and get the next one for just a small cost.

So I bought a Galaxy S3 a few weeks ago. I've been with Apple since iOS 1.1.1 and had just had an iPhone 4 for 2.5 years (since basically launch day 2010). I wanted to try something different and heard great things about the S3.

Well... I like it, but am just not crazy over it. I miss a lot of the little things of iOS such as viewing/responding to messages from the lock screen, easy navigation, Apple build quality, haven't been able to find a keyboard as accurate as iOS, things like that. Lots of little things that make me nostalgic for my iPhone. The fact of the matter is that Android vs Apple is like chocolate vs vanilla ice cream, both are great but it comes down to personal preference. I like Apple better.

I bought the S3 for $400 and spent $20 on an extended battery. I can probably get at least $400 back by selling it now. Then I found a good condition used iPhone 5 for $550. So an "upgrade" would cost me $150 total. So should I do it now or wait? The iPhone 5 is in the middle of it's life, maybe more so I'm wondering if I should wait for the 5S or 6 before getting that. I would be paying a $150 premium to buy a device of the same generation in the iPhone 5.

Its your personal reference really. And it's only valid how you feel since you've been with iOS since v1.1.1. I think you should give it a few weeks or months before making another decision. Remove the emotion and be open minded. It's ok then if you decide to go back to iOS.

If you can afford to, I'd recommend getting both
Both have pros. I think apples biggest pro is simplicity and integration.
I think Samsungs pros is that its somewhat cooler with legendary google backing it up

The galaxy S3 is a bloated peice of junk in every way that matters. Get the iPhone 5.

LOL
Trust me, you're not going to notice it day to day ;)
I always thought that apple had the best, smoothest scroll but I don't think y should judge anything based one or two experiences.

Like my iPads Safari has recently been crashing on me several times a day and I'm telling the world Appe products will always crash on you :D

Yes. Listen to the person who makes contrived nonsensical points that boil down a complex issue into a completely meaningless talking point without using correct punctuation or spelling.

Like I said, the Galaxy S3 is a bloated peice of junk in every way that matters. Meaning it crams in many useless features, while delivering all it's technical aspects extremely poorly. I have compared literally every single feature and component of the S3 to the iPhone 5, and spent a lot of time reviewing both phones. The S3 simply delivers a sub par product from an encompasing perspective. It's not something you boil down to one feature. It's something that's made up of hundreds of little issues compared quality wise.

I think it's just a matter of preference.

If you want customization with some "interesting" features with a cutback in performance of interface frame rate and app quality go for s3.

It's all preference.

The sg3 suck, I had it & sent it back after a month of use. Luckily the phone was about to get blacklisted so ebay gave me a refund. Happiest day of my life.

I don't want this to turn into an Android/Galaxy S3 bashing thread so let me say that it is a decent device. I just like iPhone better. By bashing a device that is clearly a decent smartphone, you make yourself look dumb.

For the price it sucks, point blank period.

Now if it was around $320 I would say it's amazing.

You can get a decent used one for around $380-$400. Still, I would rather have a Nexus. You HAVE to admit, the Nexus is a steal for $300-$350, even with battery issues.

Better hurry and sell it fast because the new S4 model will be available in March...

I don't do used phones, yeah but the nexus is just boring. Had so many android phones & it just felt like the OS was in Beta. When I got the iPhone everything seemed to be organized & fully in place.

Funny there is a thread on here complaining about ios. Like someone said, its a matter of preference. I just switched from an iphone to an android because it was boring, while some go the other way. There is no absolute better.

No questions.

Trade the S3 now. S4 is due end of Q1 / Early Q2. Do it now while S3 is still the latest Galaxy S out b

Bad idea to settle for s3 now, as the s4 is out in a few months (speculated press conference Mars 15.

However I too prefer the i5, mainly because of apps and the screen. If the s4 becomes smaller than the s3 (same screen size) and have the rumored screen, I'd regard it as the better buy.

In the end though, it's just a phone. The "new phone feeling" lasts some days, maybe a few weeks or even a month, but sooner or later almost everyone use their phones nowhere near the potential of a 2012 smartphone.
