...and does anyone with a mbp face any big cosmetic problems? i got the pro over the normal white macbook as i know the plastic scratches uncontrollably

This is a very old POWERBOOK G4. This happened after many years of my palms resting on the surface of the palm rest. I thought it was just a weird problem that was from old age and constant use and adding that I may have gotten a lemon.

I have a year and a half old macbook pro and it is starting to show the same signs. So, if you want it to NOT look like this... don't use it every single day all day, use an external keyboard when you can and or have better hand posture. Or I guess I have super powers that allow my skin to eat through "metal finish" over time.

Refurbed models from Apple are usually better than "new". The reason is that new models go through the normal manufacturing and quality control process. Not every single unit receives every single quality test to the fullest extent. It's just not feasible and cost-effective due to the volume or parts manufactured. Refurbed models have to pass the most rigorous quality inspections available. I just purchased my second refurbed MBP (the first is going with my son to college) and I have also purchased a refurbed Canon 50D DSLR for the same reasons above.

hmm..that makes sense
refurbs go through harder tests eh....sounds good to me lol
i guess refurb is the way to go
since i have no microcenter near me...

This is called pitting. It happens when the user's skin is slightly acidic. Apple will repair this, if you are under warranty. The best route you can go is to buy a skin for the palmrests Best Skins Ever, but you can buy an external keyboard if you want to.

Must be a new thing to repair them. They had to replace the screen under warranty and I talked to them about this and they absolutely refused. I tried 2 other times at different Apple stores to no avail. But that was 4 or 5 years ago.

whoa thats wierd lol...hope my skin isnt slightly acidic
i was actually looking to purchase bodyguardz but eh il see i guess..

One last question if anyone knows the answer
- i have 1 year limited warranty, can i buy apple care after that 1 year/?

From my experience with Apple refurbished products, I would say that they are somewhat better than new. They go through really rough testing in more areas than a brand new straight from the factory computer and everything is replaced and restored. Plus they still come with a 1 year warranty. I've never bought a computer refurb from them but I got my iPod touch from them refurb and it was 1st gen and it is still amazing. I haven't had any problems. The screen hasn't cracked and I drop it like heck and people with newer ones' screens have cracked.

On saturday I am going to the Apple Store to get a brand new Macbook Pro. I was considering buying a 15" refurb but my parents suggested get it new if I was going to pay that much for a computer. So I decided that 200 dollars more was ok and I'm going to the store. Besides I can't wait for shipping. Haha.

OMG I know right? My heart is beating super fast like its Christmas and I am going to get it Saturday. OMG so excited oh my God. I cannot sleep. And I am not being sarcastic.

Yeah, I'm 17 and I know what you mean. I'm buying the base model 13" because I don't do anything too extensive. I mostly run Photoshop, Illustrator, browse the web, chat, homework, listen to music... My current crap laptop does that without causing too much fuss. Everyone I know tells me that I don't need that computer but I mean its my money and I like to have nice things. The only reason I got a summer job was to get this.
