Thanks ill def look into installing this on my Mac . I'm at work so I can't do anything until my appointment later this evening . You are right thought , no way I did 30 cycles in 4 days . I called Apple support and the guy even said there's no way it has that many cycles . He said unless it was used , but then said but you bought it new so that's not right either . Told me go to genius and ask to get a new one or refund . I'm just curious to see what they say when they see it .

If you can get there before your appointment, just talk to the person who is up front by the door and tell them what's up...they'll probably just direct you to someone else on the floor and that person should just do a replacement for you since you're within the 14 day time period.

They do test the batteries before shipment. I've found it to be rare that a new computer actually shows a count of 0 cycles; most come with 1, and I've had one that showed a dozen out of the box (that one did get returned).

Don't worry too much about it, and it's extremely unlikely that you were sold a used computer, but do exchange it.

I'm new to this board and appreciate all the help , pointers and opinions . I will def tell them I want a return and then have them set it up in store n check the usage before I leave with it .

Ok so went to store and they tested it and everything was fine , but did have 30 cycles they said . Soooo , they gave me a new one out the back n had them set up in store . Checked and once again the cycle said 30 ! Guess its just hiwbtheyvtest them before shipping they said . It's a late 2012 model . Coconut battery says its 5 months old . They said u have a year warranty so any problems feel free to return and they will help me from there . So I'm a just keep it and later on buy the apple care and ill be protected for 3 years . Thanks again guys !!!!!!!

Why not ask for a refund and get a 2013 model ? It seems like they gave you a used computer again,

There was nothing new updated in the base model 13" retina, so it should still say late 2012... Only the 1699 model (formerly $1999) was updated, it is considered a early 2013, but the base model $1499 is not, the only thing that changed with the base is the price.

Yeah the base only got a price drop , the second level got the makeover . It's cool it was new out the box i opened it there . Like they said I have a warranty so I should be ok .

If anything it sounds like a glitch in the SMC reporting the battery cycle count. It'll be fixed in a future update no doubt.

I still can't get over the fact that a brand new laptop can have a 30 cycle battery in it right out of the box.

My brand new cMBP has a 4 cycle battery count after 25 weeks.

How can a brand new battery have 30 cycles?

Idk ? Has to be normal ? What are the odds that 2 brand new Macs would both be defective with 30 cycles out the box ? I opened both my self and they were sealed . Guess its jus the norm , even coconut battery says its 30 cycles n only 5 months old .

What does Coconut Battery have as your Current Capacity and Design Capacity? If they're equal (or the Current Capacity is higher than the Design Capacity) and just as importantly if you're not seeing short battery life from normal use then I would tend to agree that it's the hardware simply reporting the wrong info and you should be fine.

See I had 256GB 2.5 i5, that I had bought three days before the update. I then went and returned it and picked up the updated 2.6 and got my $300 back, heres my coconut battery screenshot, only shows 4 load cycles, which is about right.

It is probably 5 months old, and sat in a warehouse or stock shelf of the apple store

My cMBP is 22 weeks and I already have 42 cycles...

You know, the battery performs better and lasts longer if you use it occasionally :)

Most of that time I was using my old MBP, so the new one sat for awhile--but yes batteries love to be used.

Still, a new MBP can't get 30 cycles if it's sitting around in its box!

According to coconut batt my new rMBP is 0 weeks old and has 4 cycles on the batt.

heres a screen shot of my Mac from the Coconut utility , seems my Mac is weeks old now but still says 30 cycles

Just got my 3.0 / 512 13" and says:

0 weeks old
3 cycles

My current capacity says: 6849

I just bought 13 256 rMBP from Best Buy Open Box. Coconut battery says 24 weeks old and 3 battery cycles. The warranty has never been registered. Where do you think this one has been?
