Also is there a big difference between 2GB and 4GB? Will Tiger run any smoother? Or how about Leopard? I will be mostly using the iMac for iTunes, iPhoto, Safari and some music mixing.

I think I am going to skip on the ram upgrade until 4gig chips come out in volume.

Given there are 2 ram slots and the board only supports 4Gb, then a 4Gb ram card is a waste of money, for the price point, 2x2Gb will always be cheaper than 1x4Gb.

Actually I was thinking of 2x4 not 1x4. I am unaware that there is a hard ware limit to the memory a 64bit chip can access. If that is really the case then I would have to settle for 2x2.

I too have left the rank and file of the Windows camp and have decided to finally enlist in the Apple Army. 🙂

I must say, it's been a long way from owning an Apple ][e, that's for sure. I love my new machine. I just have to learn the OS a little better. But I'm sure in time, that will work itself out.

Truth be told, I still have a Toshiba laptop that I need for work (Windows customers), but the other 3 machines, where taken offline when I started up my Mac for the first time.

Like a new car - ya gotta get used to it, before you really enjoy and mod it. 🙂

the one darn thing that annoys me still. Ctrl-C and Cmd-C. Because that stupid cmd key isnt in the corner I have trouoble going from work to home and using copy, paste and undo.

why does everyone have to put down his purchase. Is it no longer enough to purchase a mac but now the way you purchase the mac is important too? People are assuming that everyone is going to upgrade or even have a need to upgrade to the new OS. Lets congratulate the OP for making the move to mac and let him/her decide if it was financially correct or not. The purchase was made so I am guessing that the OP is happy with their purchase. So congrats and enjoy!

I believe the 4GB maximum is a limitation of the PM965 Express chipset the mid-2007 iMacs use.

Presumably, future chipsets will have higher RAM ceilings.

In response to the people who said why not wait for Leopard...

So many people ask that and I have one simple answer in my case. Including my new iMac, I have 4 Macs in the house and will need to purchase the family pack anyway so why wait to get the new machine when I will still need the multi-pack. This way, I have had time to get all my files moved over, purchase Crossover Mac so I can run Windows apps without Windows thanks very much and this way, I'm not getting a brand new mostly untested by everyday users. I know it goes through heavy beta testing but they can't account for every possible setup now matter how much they try. Congrats on your new purchase.😀
