More like some blog faked it and is trying to save face and not lose credibility when they have none.

Someone lied, and this time I can sincerly say it wasn't Steve, no, I am no fanboy, but headers ARE VERY easily forged, specially after having a nice time to release them. Why now? Why not release them immediately? To fishy.

It's obvious at this point that people are adding fuel to the fire. And that people who hate apple are going to latch on to negative things said about them.

It's pretty sad how people can't be objective and see the truth thru lies. I get that people are having issues with their iPhones and it's sad that those people don't realize they are buying into Anti-Apple propaganda.

BGR has started to really show that it's sold out considering it's part of a media company and not the BGR that it used to be before penske got involved in it.

This is how Microsoft feels most of the time :)

I don't like to get in the middle of these things, but I know BGR is a blog that has quite a bit of credibility.

The timeline was that BGR posted the email conversation, Apple said something to Fortune, then BGR corrected the last email that attributed to Jobs.

It could just be a mix up at Apple. The headlines flying around the Web was the last line about relaxing. Jobs didn't say that. Jobs could have told the Dowling "I didn't say that" and to fix it. PR dude assumed he didn't say any of it and not just the last line.

Either way, what was said wasn't really inconsistent to Jobs' other email. I'll give Apple the benefit of the doubt particularly since it doesn't matter if he said it or not.

I believe BGR here and I'd like to see their name cleared, although I'm disappointed they're paying for sources.

There is no real way that BGR can 100 percent say this is from Apple. I believe that he thinks its true and authentic but its just to easy to fake. Apple really doesnt gain anything by lying but stand alot to lose. The only person here i see gaining from this is BGR and his so called source that he bought it from.

Weren't these the same emails which this guy shopped around to websites to sell?

First off, that's weird.

Secondly, Apple has never gone out of their way to shut down one of the Jobs' emails as a fake. That is new.

Last, there's nothing earth shatteringly interesting or damaging in those emails. Why people are trying to make this into some sort of mini tech Watergate, I don't know. Boredom?

If you read the story, they had access to the original emails. It'd be downright impossible to fake in the email. Screen shots, maybe fakeable. Faking in the detail posted would be incredibly hard.

incredibly hard to fake text? How do you figure? Copy the text out of a known good email from Steve and past it into a new one, wow that would really be tough.

so what does this all mean??

Being in IT, I understand the the article and have lots of familiarity with email headers. It's general knowledge that you can spoof any email to pretend it's coming from someone else. You'll see this mostly in SPAM when you get an email from Bank of America to click a link and login to some Russian web site to steal your account info.

The headers reveal the source server, and relay servers in-between. Header info is used in combination with SPAM filters to filter out the bad stuff. Anyhow, per the headers in the article the email does appear to be coming from the Apple corporate email servers.

I personally don't believe Steve Jobs really has the time to exchange personal email with the little people and it's probably delegated to several employees. So if the email is from one of his delegates, he can certainly say the email exchange was not (directly) from him.

This is about the third or fourth troll er I mean thread on this subject. Check things out a bit before starting a new thread on an old subject.

Also BGR used to have credibility. They've had a few days to cook the books as it were, and this could be nothing more than damage control spin on their parts.

Its just a case of he said she said. Believe who you want.

I do not agree with apple on the issue generally - there is clearly a hardware problem, and it's not just how the bars are displayed or the same thing that happens to other phones - but I didn't see anything wrong in SJ's responses in that faked(?) exchange. He was calm and rational, and the other guy was like a raving loon. I don't see any reason for apple to deny it unless it was false.

The only part of this article that I will believe is the part that says quote: "Yes, BGR runs rumors and information that is not always completely confirmed."

The rest is most likely damage control spin.

LOL yeah blah bla bla, yippity yip yap

this guy needs to get laid

Dude, did you comprehend what I said?

If they have access to the ORIGINAL EMAIL like the story said they'd have to view the headers in the email application. I said it could be faked in a screenshot (or a copy and paste).

But, if I fired up GMail and did a WebEx or something similar with you on my email and you saw me login into my email and pull up in real time an email and click view headers ... That'd be hard to fake.

Why are people so intent on trying to prove people wrong on this stupid board, especially when they can't even comprehend a simple message. geez.

I want a product that works. You apologists are exactly what causes corporations to stop being good stewards of the consumer.
I agree completely.

Specifics aside, the bottom line for me is simple. I will never trust Apple again.

In addition, the sad fact is they've tarnished a good image with many of their loyal customers like myself. I can no longer suggest their products to others, as I so enthusiastically used to do. I harbor no ill will, it's a free market.

This is the blog-o-sphere that everyone seems so gung-ho to push for the news and information delivery method of the future. So-long and buh bye to editorial control and fact checking. At the very least BGR (and any other site) should have gotten confirmation from both parties before running the story as true. If they couldn't, then it is all alleged, purported, rumored, phone calls weren't returned, etc etc. Now that one side is giving the ol 'WTF are you talking about?' they are stuck in defense and face saving mode.

Oddly, they (BGR) may be right. I am sure Apple's PR department gets ulcers anytime SJ gets near and email client. In this case I just can't see SJ entertaining this guy for 4 emails. It would be more characteristic for him to give is two word answer and move on.
