I would have preferred if the Pre's keyboard was landscape; thus giving keys more space. But then that would make it kind of bulky and fragile like the g1. I bet the second version of Pre will just use a landscape virtual keyboard.

1 million is pretty ****** when you compare it to how many units the iPhone sold as well as compared to other smartphones. So, Android fanboy, get walking. Yea, sure, the OS is green but as long as the devices are not fun to use it doesn't matter. Same thing goes for BlackBerrys.

Well, the G1 has sold 1.3 million and hasn't been out a year yet. The original iPhone (what we should be comparing it to, first gen to first gen) sold between 3-4 million in its lifetime. Considering the G1 was sold on the smallest, least developed network in the country, it's sales really don't look that bad.

The second Pre version, the Eos (seen here) looks like a Blackjack.

ATT is supposedly going to get both it and the original Pre. (I still find it amusing that Apple tied themselves to ATT, but ATT is always bringing in other phones.)

The problem with a landscape keyboard is that then you have to support landscape mode in the display. We haven't seen that.

I have had both types with the Samsungs i730 and i760, and personally prefer the vertical slider keyboard, as do many other i730 fans. Oddly, it's easier to slide down the vertical keyboard with one hand, type and slide it back up.

Who cares..the iphone is more "fun" ;) Seriously tho, good point. You also have to factor in the huge following apple has versus the first fone using android. If as many fones are released using android as planned, it could become a major player...as long as they keep the interface and screen size consistent..

The original iPhone sales were never "great" compared to the sales of the 3G. As everyone loves to point out when talking about the iPhone's lack of basic features, the iPhone is in it's infancy. Well, Android is even greener. Give it time, just like we gave the original iPhone time and patience.

How does this respond to the post of mine that you quoted? I agree with everything you wrote...

The market for smartphones has really changed since 2007. There is now much greater demand but also many more options. I don't know which way that cuts - I'm just saying even a first gen-to-first gen comparison isn't really apples to apples when it's 2 years later.

Doesn't it make it MORE impressive that a phone tied to a single carrier is in the top 5? Clearly a phone (or phones) available on multiple carriers SHOULD sell more, just as the blackberries did.

Yes, yes it does.

The Pre feels really good in your hand in terms of size and shape, but there’s a real plasticky aura about it. Additionally, things aren’t looking good for that QWERTY either. And hey, you know we take them keyboards seriously! When you try and type on the top row of keys, your finger hits the bottom part of the front piece and on top of that, you often hit multiple keys at the same time while typing. It’s actually really frustrating and doesn’t bode well for such a fantastic social communication/personal/business tool.

Centro has even smaller keyboard, it sold millions as well, lets wait for BGR's full report, shall we?

Don't let the full review bit you eventually, if you are so much concerned with a single report.

Point

If we like it or not Apple works on their own time schedule. Clearly they know what people want and what shoudl be there. Unlike others that try to cram it in Apple chose to ensure that the device was the best that it could be, when it is stable they release more. They are following a well defined road map. iPhone users have been part of the big beta test. That being said we know that most, if not all the people that designed the Pre are from Apple, and they appear to be following the old model of jam it all in.

Competation is the best thing for all of us, but if you want to compete with Apple you better come with you A game. There is no way that Palm is the compnay to do that, they do not have the culture nor do they have the financial resources to go the distence.

The more I look at this phone, the more I'm unimpressed by it.

And what happened to the glossy look? It looks more matte looking more than anything.

Maybe the next iPhone will come out with grammar and spell-check. You obviously need it. Wow....
