I honestly don't think Cydia is any worse, quality wise, than the actual app store.

For every half assed ugly theme in Cydia you have a dumb fart app in the app store.

Yes, the good stuff you have to pay for. Do you expect navigation apps in the app store like tomtom and Navigon to be free? No.... So why expect things like springtomize, multifl0w and intelliscreenx to be free?

There are plenty of awesome tweaks in Cydia for free anyway. Seriously, activator and f.lux are free. Even ifile and pdanet are free, yes there are restrictions to what you can do, but it's no different than a lite app in the app store. Hell bitesms is free! That's a major major jailbreak app and the bite team allow you to use it absolutely FREE if you don't want to pay $10 to remove ads.

So yes, Cydia has crap, but so does the app store. Yes, Cydia isn't exactly beautiful, but like someone else said, it's not being ran by a multi million dollar corporation.

I disagree. I recently jailbroke for the first time in a few years. Jailbreaking itself is very easy, but the apps available that are cydia-only are still such crap that it makes jailbreaking a waste of time. Look at Cydia itself. It's an absolute disaster. How is it still SO bad? Could you imagine if the App Store was that disorganized giant mess of scrolling lists and so difficult to text search?

I disagree w/ you; apps/tweaks from cydia have been integrated into iOS one way or another. Also, I still have around +30 apps/tweaks that I find are great to have. Hell, just ncsetting is worth doing a jb. I do agree w/ you that cydia is not the prettiest interface, but if you want something it's pretty easy to find. I don't understand how the text style search function is so hard for you to use or maybe you are just trolling.


As for the OP, I still do Restore as New after each new jb.

I don't know what you guys are talking about when you say that tweaks don't work well. I have over 50 tweaks installed that all work beautifully and offer necessary functions I couldn't use my phone without. That's why I love jail breaking, and why the majority of jealbreakers love jailbreaking.

I've jailbroken several,iPads, iPhones and iPods. Every iDevice I've ever owned. For me, you're not using your device to its fullest potential unless it's jailbroken. JMO.

You're missing the point. I'm not pissed off or annoyed with Cydia devs, demanding that they do better, i'm just commenting on the state of things. I'm not saying that they should be better; i'm simply saying the quality off apps is lower. I understand fully why this is, but that doesn't mitigate the simple fact that the apps are of lower quality. It's unfortunate because i'm sure if things like Quasar were allowed on the real App Store it would be much better.



Cydia is a disaster. It would be nice if their were a reasonable alternative.

I have a boat load of installs from Cydia and haven't had one serious problem yet. Any issue I ran into was a crash and it was easily taken care of by uninstalling what I had just installed. I did it one tweak at a time and I also gave a quick google on whatever I was installing to make sure it was solid and like I said, no serious issues what so ever. I think Cydia makes the i phone the way it should be and I really do have a ton of tweaks and or apps installed all working flawlessly together. I am a fan of functionality and themes as well as color mods so my list under " settings " has grown quite large and that's not to mention things like " page pusher " that you only see under the " management " section in cydia so I'm not sure where you guys went wrong with installs but it definitely did. Cydia has been around since '08 and has been enjoyed by many since then and it really has come a long way considering the money making isn't what a lot of people think it is. It most definitely doesn't have an Apple budget. I'll shoot you a list of what I have installed if you'd like to see what I mean by " boat load ". or a screen shot as proof positive.
