And it's a software feature, not something inherent in the earphones. I have Etymotics earphones, and they have a (Etymotics-branded version of an existing) app which runs in the background, takes audio in from the microphone, and if any sound goes over a (settable) dB level, it copies it through to the earphones. So you can hear your music without distraction (the earphones have quite good isolation), but loud sounds (horns, sirens and such) come through when necessary. It allows you to clearly hear your surroundings without taking the earbud out. A normal earbud that's sitting in your ear and not playing music will muffle external sounds around you. Audio transparency fixes that.
And that's potentially one of Apple's biggest selling points - controlling the whole ecosystem, they can potentially push the limits of normal bluetooth, to ensure that the AirPods have a rock-solid connection to one's iPhone or Apple Watch. If they fail this they're in for a world of bad press. If they nail it, I might just get a pair (the other two concerns being how good is the sound, and how well do they stay in place - early reports on the latter are promising).Look up Bragi on Amazon and the reviews are less than stellar. Biggest complaint is the Bluetooth connectivity, which is apparently terrible.
You can't know any of this. You're rating the sound of earphones you have against ones that neither you nor practically anyone else has yet tried. Early indications are that, though the AirPods resemble the EarPods, their fit is quite a bit more secure, which affects both sound quality and how well they stay in the ear. How about waiting until you've actually tried the AirPods before congratulating yourself on your smart purchase decision? What you've posted sounds a lot like "well, I haven't seen this movie, but here's my review..."The sound will be much better in the Dash since it creates a seal to provide bass and cleaner sound. ...
... I personally think the AirPod is a poor design. First, they aren't really secure in your ear. Adding the stems, those things are going to be flying out of your ears all the time. Without the cord, this is a problem. The lack of the seal will make the audio quality lesser as well.
Well, considering that the "Dash" also has a heartrate monitor and fitness tracker, I guess it makes about as much sense as a waterproof smartwatch. Can't imagine they stay in well. It's also a super niche feature that'll likely be used by less than 10% of users.
No one could ever make a waterproof smartwatch, that's unpossible!Well, considering that the "Dash" also has a heartrate monitor and fitness tracker, I guess it makes about as much sense as a waterproof smartwatch.![]()

In general terms, over the ear headphones will be worn inside, where you want to hear your music instead of the surroundings (indeed, that may be the entire reason you're wearing them), while earphones are more likely worn "out and about", where situational awareness (like of that fire engine coming down the street you're about to cross) is more important to survival. So, headphones we want noise cancelling, and earphones we want noise permitting?
Yep, that will be a problem. I was a little astonished there's no physical/mechanical way on the AirPods to control the volume. Then again, you can use the volume up/down buttons on the phone. That's going to be super fun in crowded and noisy subway with in-and-out data connections. "Siri raise volume" "Siri raise volume" "hey can everyone shut up for a second so I can raise my volume?"
I'm still wishing they'd add a play/pause button between the volume up/down buttons on the iPhone, just like on the various iPods. It would make it a better, more natural, music player.
I tried them, not very comfortable, was "loosing" them all the time. So far the best for me is JayBirds X2Think I'm just going to get these: https://www.bose.ca/en_ca/products/...ort-wireless.html#v=soundsport_wireless_black
Nothing useless on the chart and you sound mad. Based on features those bragin headphones seem more full featured. All 3 way overpriced for normal consumers though.
I have The Dash and they are great.
Having not tried the AirPods there are some areas where I would like to see how they stack up.
Bragi has great fit, internal storage, can swim with them, fitness tracking, touch controls and a great design.
The stick ends of the AirPods make them look a bit fugly.
But the Dash have been improving but still have some connectivity issues. You can't walk away from your phone like you can with most BT. Keep it in your pocket or on your desk.
Also, looks likes Apple's will auto connect when you put one or both in your ear. Bragi has an issue here. If I put them both in my ear they auto connect. But if I want to listen at my desk with only one (yes transparency is great but people wait for you to remove it whereas with just one in they will come talk to you so usually wear just the right at work), it is a pain to get it to connect. Usually I have to go into my phone, go into settings and hit connect and double tap the earbud.
It is actually easier to put them both in, start playing music and then remove one. It also isn't as easy to answer a call if you have to put just one in.
However you can answer or reject calls by nodding or shaking your head. And that is really cool.
I tried them, not very comfortable, was "loosing" them all the time. So far the best for me is JayBirds X2
If your Bluetooth headphones are paired to only one device, perhaps.Bragi don't come with their own Reality Distortion Field either to disguise the fact the Earpods are just lazily designed $160 Bluetooth headphones with "easy pairing" and very little else on the competitive feature scale.
I always forget that I have to pair Bluetooth devices once and then they just connect automatically. At least Apple was courageous enough to dumb that procedure down for the masses and make it a major selling point.![]()
But the AirPods are so, well, stylish!!

Yes sir! Thanks for the high and almighty correction of my actions.
I am not reviewing the AirPod or congratulating or declaring. The Dash is a premium product based on feature list and price. And unless you have the worlds biggest ear holes, and perhaps you do, the AirPods will not create a seal in your ear canal. No matter how amazing the speaker is, the sound will not be as good.
Do these fit exactly the same way as the as the ones that come with the iPhone 6s Plus? These hurt my my ear because I have to push them in a bit get them to stay. Is there a rubber sleave available that would make them stay better?
Interesting, I've held off buying them because I couldn't find a place to go and try them on.
What do you like about the Jaybirds?

I like the sound, some people don't, but I like it. I also like the way they fit. I use complyfoam.com with them and this is perfect. What I like the most is the connection range. I left my iPhone on the floor and went to another side of my gym and music was still there. Almost lost the phone that dayI also like that long press volume up skip to the next song, long press on the volume minus goes to the previous song. I don't need to count 1-2, 1-2-3 like I do with my Bose QC35.
I tried JayBird Freedom and it was not mine. 1. Control is heavy with a charging clip. 2. I misplaced my charging clip and couldn't charge them.
I don't recommend to buy X2 now full price, only a a huge discount, new X3 are coming very soon(rumors).
And here, L&Gs, is a perfect example of critical thinking! To be fair, it should mention the AirPods come with a battery case, have easy pairing and automatic on/off, three features the Headphone don't have.
It's also misleading that the Dash shows "rechargeable on the go for 5 times" and it says nothing next to the AirPods, like it doesn't include a battery case.
Lastly, "Bragi OS update" as a point? That's pretty cringeworthy, reminds me of this:

Chances are the AirPods' firmware can be updated too, even Apple keyboards get firmware updates.
