It would be interesting to know whether the buyer actually comes up with that payment in the end.

Yes, that would be interesting.

I watched the auction for about the last five minutes or so. Amazing to see the price go so high.

My bid was about $2200.00 off the pace.

Unbelievable - Lovely as those machines are (to look at the most beautiful computer ever created - especially the 20") I remember being sorely disappointed with mine so far as performance went, it was slooooooow even back in the day, absolutely beyond bonkers paying that sort of money IMO.

Hmmm G4 or brand new 27" 3.2Ghz iMac brand new with spare change????.....decisions decisions.... ROFL

May be Apple bought it 'cause it had some mysterious features and was able to run Mountain Lion... Any conspiracy theorists in here?

I would imagine it to be a collector (a serious one!!) a pristine unused iMac G4 20" would be quite the find.

Either that or someone who has somehow managed to have lots of money AND be totally mad.. ;)

I can totally understand why it went for $2700. If someone is a 'professional' collector, this is a very rare find. A brand spanking new top of the line iMac G4?

It's just that I spend that kind of money or more on my rMBP, but never on this as I know I can get the machine for a fraction of that price.

But, again. If you really enjoy collecting those and are willing to spend the money. I don't see why not?

I suppose if you buy a Mac, decide not to use it and never take it out of the box... you could always keep it for 10 years and get your whole investment back. :D
