Maybe Amazon does like Circuit City used to do (at least we had to do at my store even though it was wrong).

If we got a return we had to repackage it to look like brand new and stuck it back on the shelf as new instead of open box.
I doubt it. The deformity that the OP's MBP has looks less like user-damage and more like a manufacturing defect to me.

I am not sure I understand. Has he purchased it from Amazon?

I think Amazon sends a replacement only after they receive the original.

Also, what do you mean he "got a incase case out of it, too."? How? And what is "a incase case"?

Thanks.

no, my brother didn't order it from amazon, but it doesn't really matter where you bought it from, if u call applecare and tell them about the problem, they should tell you what to do.

as for my brother, he had the exact same chip on the right side of the palm rest. he called apple, they gave a choice of either returning it or compensated with a laptop case. initially he chose the latter, then changed his mind, but they had already shipped the case out. so apple told him to order another one online and when he received that one, he can ship them back the old one. i'd imagine you can do the same. just call them and see.

Why are you questioning whether to exchange it or not? It's a no-brainer surely. If I spend $2000+ on a new notebook and it was damaged I'd want an exchange or refund immediately.

I mean, If you bought a new car and then found out it had a dent in it. You'd exchange it, right?
