Okay, no offense, but that wasn't smart. Don't assume that a place accepts Apple Pay if you've never used it there before!

Well, I really wanted a medium iced coffee and a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese on the side. They take Apple Pay and advertise it, the employee was just either new or a total mental midget. Either way, went down the street 2 minutes to another DD and got my stuff. These DD's are privately owned. They lost out on a sale. No sweat off my shaft.

I mean really, I would not like to do this... but that's just me.
the first time I started using Apple Pay, I went through that same scenario. I was at a site in Illinois for a few weeks in the middle of winter and boy did they hate having to do that for me every time I drove through there. haha

a couple times, I'd get this one kid that insisted they don't have it set up.

Never use Apple Pay in the drive through...just use your darn card.

Anyway. I have used Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay. They all work great. I used Apple Pay at my local grocery the other day.

It's a useful system, but nothing game changing. It's almost as easy to use a credit card. Chip cards are extremely secure, btw.

that reminds me.. in the past, I've had a new CC automatically sent to me in the mail due to some charges that my bank tracked as odd. it turned out that it was someone from a McDonald's that was using my card info.

I know how Apple Pay works, I use it daily.

The problem with your theory is assuming that all of those employees know what to do with your phone once you hand it to them. In reality, and in practice, they don't. I've tried on several occasions at several restaurants. I always end up having to explain.

Indoors is fine, drive through is a completely different story.

I think people here missed the point in his story that he was trying to use it in the drive thru.
Why is drive thru a completely different story?

It's not like they have different technology in the drive thru. :D

It's all the same crap!

On other side of that very same coin, SO WHAT if the employee doesn't know what to do? THATS THE POINT. THEY don't do anything!!

I guarantee, put your phone on the terminal and you're done. If you can't help but speak, put tape on your mouth.

Open that wallet app. With your finger ALREADY resting on that home button, your finger has already been scanned: it's ready to go. Just TAP TO PAY!

ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!

No conversation between the cashier and you needs to take place. You don't have to say a word. By speaking, you're probably confusing them more than anything.

You've got 2 options: You can hand them that card or that phone. It's your choice.

Those payment terminals are made to be pushed out of the window.

I HAVE paid at McDonalds drive thru with Apple Pay, and I DON'T carry my wallet nearly as often as I used to. If at all!!!

Just hand. Them. The phone.

Even if the cashier doesn't know what's going on, hell, they'll probably do it the right way by accident. It's that easy.

You're in control.

I use Apple Pay every time I shop at Whole Foods and blue bottle coffee. It does suck when their NFC system is down which happened to be a couple of times at the cafe.

I don't get what the big deal is. You drive up, cashier hands you the terminal and you put your phone in the general vicinity of the terminal and that's it.

Who actually hands their card to the employee? Only time I ever do that is in a restaurant with no tap machines and the server normally holds their hand out to take your card.

It is not rocket science!! It's so easy a baby could do it.

The hardest part about Apple Pay is adding the credit or debit card to Apple Pay. The rest is second nature.

If you added your card to Apple Pay, YOU CAN PAY WITH IT. You already have done the hardest part!

We get it you are an Apple Pay god, now enjoy the rest of your day. With IOS 10 on my 6S plus yesterday at an Apple Store my card wouldn't pop up, sales guy got another reader same thing. I had to open wallet for it to work. Haven't tried since so we shall see.

For some reason I lol'd at 'guest presents phone for payment' on that mcds how to

Also why does the guest have to present their phone?

Step 1: employee asks 'how will you be paying'
Step 2 : guest says 'debit'
Step 3 : employee hands guest the terminal
Step 4 : guest pays

Or maybe next time I'll say 'good day sir, I'd like to pay with my 3 day old 128gb iPhone 7 in matte black'

Lol, sorry this sounds overbearing but I'm just being funny. But really, Apple made it so easy for you. You can't make any complaints about Apple Pay. You can't. Apple eliminated all that. It's just too easy. And the OP will realize that on her second use. That's why people immediately told her that the problem was with McDonalds.

I don't think you're understanding me. Handing them the phone ready to go, they're already confused in most cases. Not to mention, the times I have, they've told me that they cannot take my phone.

Either way, stop making it seem like I do not know how to use Apple Pay. I've used it hundreds of times. I know how to use Apple Pay.

Your first mistake was McDonald's
Even for the chicken McNuggets though?

If you know how Apple Pay works, then why is them being confused your concern?

Tap-to-Pay isn't new. The cashier doesn't need to be an expert. The table has already been set for you, all you gotta do is grab a plate and put some food in it!

Don't be embarrassed or ashamed by Apple Pay, it IS... the better way to pay.

I will say THIS: Sometimes you come across clueless employees, underdeveloped stores, or instances where the terminal is broken. It happens. But don't blame Apple for that and then say "Well, now I'm not using Apple Pay."

That's mean. And! None of that falls on Apple!

I'll say it again: With Apple Pay, Apple has catered to you. The table has been SET for you. All you gotta do is grab a plate and put some food in it! It's ready for you! It's for you! It's yours!
[doublepost=1474340626][/doublepost]Apple Pay really is the BETTER way to pay. And sooner than later, it's going to resonate.

What a nightmare. I left work and, feeling not up to cooking tonight, decided to swing by McDonalds with my brand new iPhone 7+. I had just set up Apple Pay earlier today. In the drive through, I struggled to locate where I tap my phone. I asked the employee "Do you take Apple Pay?". She looked confused, then asked me to repeat the question. I asked her again. I told her "I have a brand new iPhone 7 Plus with Apple Pay, and I would like to pay with it. Do you have an NFC Reader?" She looked even more confused and said she would talk to her manager. I noticed the drive thru line was getting very long and I was extremely embarrassed at this point, so I said "No, that won't be necessary, I will pay with my credit card."

Overall, just an embarrassing experience, and I'm not sure I'll use Apple Pay again.
My first experience was similar, but I already had my credit card out and ready to go as a backup because I was afraid it wouldn't work... which it didn't. I've tried it three times, one of which was successful. I'm surprised it's caught on so well because I don't find it easier than using a credit card.

Bah - credit card is just as easy and works everywhere. I still don't get the point of why anyone thinks Apple Pay is better. I generally have to have my credit card available anyway for the large percentage of time Apple Pay fails to work so don't even bother trying any more, just use the credit card. I was excited when it first came out and gave it a good try in a lot of places - failure rate too high to be worth it, a hassle with clerks and holds up the line for others.

Apple Pay is pointless if you have to hand them your phone. I didn't even know it worked that way and thought you had to authenticate with your fingerprint. If you're going to hand your phone over you may as well just hand them your card.

If you want to talk easy though, try using Apple Pay on an Apple Watch at a Bank of America ATM. It's by far the smoothest implementation of Apple Pay that I've seen.

I use Apple Pay all the time at Subway! Never had an issue. Just easier. Haha!

What is that terminal? In the U.K. Contact less is built into the normal debit chip and pin machines so they would just hand you that. Not something that looks like it came out of the seventies.
