My iPhone is stuck updating to 7.1.2. Been stuck for two hours. What do I do? I don't wanna lose my data?
Edit: during the update I rebooted it and my phone booted right up.

This seems to be fairly common on this round of updates. My wife's 5C and iPad 3, along with the old hoboken 4 my son uses for games updated just fine, but my original Mini and 5S both hung like this and needed power+home button reboots! then were fine. Also had a friend who needed a reboot on his 4 as well.

Both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 bricked.

ETA: Looks like a soft reset brought both of them back to life, with the update installed. Crisis averted

ITunes demanding Restore on iPhone5s after ios7.1.2 install

This is the first time an Apple update has frozen up my iPhone. After I installed 7.1.2, clicked Accept, then the phone screen displayed a cord attaching to iTunes, which I did, but my Mac's iTunes says my phone is damaged and I have to do a Restore. Won't that wipe out all of the customized settings? Why the heck should I have to do that? Apple Support says all of my services are "expired", so here I am on MacRumors, and find that many others are having this same problem. Soft reboot did not work. Now the iPhone just turns itself off after 2-3 minutes. Won't do ANYTHING except display the "plug me into iTunes" graphic. I need the darn thing to be functional so I'll let you guys know what happens.

This is really strange. I can't remember the last time a minor update caused so many issues.

After reading this thread, I decided to do the update on my 5S OTA (against my better judgement :) ). No issues...took about 5 minutes.

crashed iPhone 5

installing 7.1.2 crashed my iPhone5. Since the power button is not working, it took me a long while, pressing it extremely hard with a sharp object, until I was finally able to do a hard reboot.

Why in the world would Apple release this buggy 7.1.2 ? Have you seen the number of complaints ? Even large circulation newspaper are printing instructions on how to recover (Financial Times among others).

All of this to get the beacon working::: what are these beacons ? I don't give a h**t about these beacons. Just don't nag me to upgrade your iOS.

Apple: major fail with 7.1.2

Whoever did manage the quality control on this release should be replaced.

First ever failed update!

Needed a restore from iCloud for the first time ever updating my iPad3 to 7.1.2 (11D257). Just finished my iPhone 4 rebooting it 2 times: a very strange update sequence for both devices! **** happens

Well I updated both my 5s and iPad 4 via iTunes. The 5s update got stuck half way through. I unplugged and started again with a restore, rather than update - must have got stuck during activation. The iPad 4 update went ok, but I've had several instances where the unit has crashed and shut down since - just like in my early 7.0 days.

Not a great experience this time around and I suggested my wife just wait till the next update.

Is this app a Linux only app?

No it's Mac OS windows and Linux. Google recboot and download it and exit your phone from the bricked state. I had all my data because the phone would not update completely. It's the best solution I have to a bricked phone. Recboot

I'm having the same issue, I have tried recboot, and it can see the device but is unable to kick it out of recovery mode. I'm unable to get tinyumbrella to work at all, any attempt to restore the ipad only ends with an unknown error 9..... any ideas?
