iPhones have slow wireless charging. Mid-range android phones have double its speed.
Is it still the case?
The iPhone 16 series advertises up to 50% charge in 30 minutes over MagSafe at 25W, and USB-C charging up to 45 W.
This seems pretty industry-standard to me.

Last year wireless charging on the iPhone only went up to 15 W, and wired only up to 27 W.

If there’s one device that needs this feature it’s the Apple Watch because if an update goes very badly on that then you have to take it or send it to Apple to fix. Being able to recover this yourself wirelessly would be huge just by putting it next to another device. Thankfully I’ve never bricked a watch but this would be a nice peace of mind.

Wouldn't the MagSafe magnets repel two iPhones back to back?
The AirPods 4 case isn’t magnetic. Apple may remove the magnets from the AirPods Pro 3 case.

The reverse wireless charging would be for AirPods, not charging other phones.

You can already recover Apple Watch and Apple TV wirelessly using an iPhone.

Does the functioning iPhone have to download and transmit the full IPSW file? Could take a while I’m assuming, but a good start.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this somehow leverages Apple’s ‘update the phone while it’s still in the box’ feature for Apple stores.

You'll either have to:

1. Buy a second iPhone
2. Buy a Mac
3. Buy a PC and install "Apple Devices"
4. Find a friend with one of ^ and willing to help.

I do hope they'll extend this to iPads as well, so you can have an iPhone restored by an iPad (and vice versa)
The article says you can use an iPad

Well this is welcome news considering the M4 iPad Pro's getting bricked by iOS 18.

A portless iPhone will suck for people who transfer high amounts of data. Wireless will never be as fast being plugged in for transferring data.

No, Apple wants to remove the USB-C port!
Given that Apple keep promoting ProRes video recording and the higher 4k frame rates of that require "compatible external storage" I really can't see the usb-c port going anywhere soon, certainly not on the Pro models at least...

from https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/iphone/iphde02c478d/ios:
ProRes is available for recording up to 4K at 30 fps. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can record 4K at 60 fps when connected to a compatible external storage device. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max can record 4K at 120 fps when connected to a compatible external storage device.

So, portless iPhone it seems. And potentially wire-less iPhone too, meaning no charging cable in the box. Just a phone. “Saves the planet much huh”
At that point, might as well not include all of those paperwork. Saves planet even more. Load them as part of the initial setup process.

Nice. Many people I deal with do not have a computer at all. They only have a smartphone and sometimes a tablet. So if someone had an iPhone and iPad that would be good. This is a good move that should help in the future.
