Yeah iTunes is on.

Actually what happened was that I was trying to do an upgrade and forgot to save the SHSH and it started through the apple server directly so I just pulled the plug on the iPhone. Now it won't go past the connect to iTunes stage.

I guess when I pulled the plug it corrupted the software. So now TinyU canwon't give me a option to save my SHSH. I can only put this down to the corrupted iPhone software as even iTunes does not show what software its on when I connect it.

Is there any way to unlock or will I have to to go through Apple for the restore and then wait it out till 4.1 with the upgraded baseband comes out with a unlock??

Did you turn on the TSS server? It's not on by default. Also, have you saved your ECID SHSH locally? Until you have, you can't use TinyUmbrella to sign your firmware installation.

Yeah I started the TSS Server. Nope I have not saved the SHSH as the phone is in restore mode and won't start up. Tiny Umbrella can't/won't pick up the SHSH from it. Even iTunes won't pick up the software version or phone type.

I guess I am a newbie then as I thought that the term "bricked" meant that it was not working.

Ok so let me give you a run down of where I am at. I have tried this on a mac and a PC now and bot times I get the error 3002 immediately after iItunes has unpacked the update.

The main issue is that I was trying to update it yesterday and once I thought it had gone through but without Tinyumbrella running in the back ground. So I immediately unplugged it in the middle of the software update.

Now its always stuck in the plug into itunes screen when it comes on. When I try and update it gets stuck on the error 3002.

If I update through apple then the baseband gets updated which means no unlock.

What should I do? Anyway to reload the software it to 4.0.2 and then I can Tinyumbrealla to update without changing the baseband.

No back of P's has been made as far as I know.
I made the same mistake with an iPhone 3GS. I was using PT to upgrade to 4.1 and without upgrading the baseband and I quickly clicked to select the firmware. It started updating and I wasn't sure if I had the custom firmware selected so I unplugged it. Now it's stuck and will not go into DFU mode in iTunes to install the custom firmware. I was able to boot the phone back to 4.0.1 and it worked for 2 days then the unlocked started going buggy where it kept losing the carrier. Now both the unlock and wifi stopped working on the phone.

How do you expect to use TinyUmbrella to sign your firmware installation if you haven't downloaded your SHSH? And no, your phone doesn't need to boot to get its SHSH, you just need to enter your phone's ECID into TinyUmbrella manually. You can get the ECID of an iPhone in DFU mode from System Profiler on a Mac or Device Manager on a PC.

Cool. Will give that a shot and update here.

You are good :D

Now I got it to save my SHSH and go right through the install. It gives me the 1004 error but when I click out and go into TinyU I don't the option to kick out of recovery (its greyed out) iPhone shows connect to iTunes logo.

In tinyumbrella it says that my phone SHSH is backed up as 4.1 so does this mean that it was on 4.1 when I got it? Is that why its failing?

Woooooo Hooooooo

Went back to an older version of TinyUmbrella and that allowed me to kick it out of recovery.

Now it has come on. Modem firmware is 1.59.00 and version is 4.1

Good to go with with jailbreak and unlock.

Thanks all
