Not surprising to me. No idea where all these "android is hard to use" come from.

Go check out t-mobile, 3 and vodafone and orange.

My s2 is costing the same as my ip4.

T-Mobile - iPhone 4 free from £40pm, SGS2 free from £35pm.

Three - iPhone 4 free from £43pm, SGS2 free from £30pm.

Vodafone - iPhone 4 free from £40pm, SGS2 free from £36pm.

Orange - iPhone 4 free from £40pm, SGS2 free from £40pm.

So other than Orange, the SGS2 is cheaper on all of the major networks.

I simply enjoy the iPhone and Apple experience. I will always be willing to pay a premium for an Apple product because I love the user experience and attention to detail. Unlike a lot of people (I guess I'm REALLY lucky), I've never had a problem with an Apple product. An acquaintance of mine is a Mac freak and he ended up buying the SGS (the first, not the second. This was a few months before the SGS2 came out) because it was 50-something dollars cheaper than the iPhone 4. He says he loves it, and while it is a very impressive phone, it's not something that would make me switch, nor is it an "iPhone killer", which seems to be a term used for some of the newer, more powerful Android handsets.

Samsung makes a very nice product, and while I will most likely pick up a SGS2 in the future, I would use it as a side-kick to my iPhone and it would not replace my iP4.

I don't get that logic at all...

You want an iPhone... but instead you buy something else for say 300 pounds, but you still don't have an iPhone.

I don't consider that saving 200 pounds, I consider that wasting 300 pounds, you didn't get what you really wanted and you paid 300 quid for something else...

An iPhone even though a bit more expensive is a MUCH better investment cause it'll stay relevant for two years because of the updates... with Android, you'll change at least two phones in those two years and it'll cost you more in the end.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but by far the biggest factor as to whether someone chooses an iPhone or an Android device is price, and this poll of the British public reflects that. It's interesting to see that the respective marketting approaches (Android as an OS and iPhone as a device) are reflected exactly as you'd expect in the "OS Brand" and "Hand Brand" categories. Of course the biggest surprise is "Ease of use" where Android scores a marginal win; not a result that most people would expect. In addition, the "Network Operator" category appears to be an anomoly as the iPhone is now available on all of the major networks, so you'd have typically expected the scores to be about the same.

What we can devise from these results is that the introduction of a cheaper "iPhone Mini" would have the biggest impact on a customer's choice of device, and it'll be interesting to see if Apple eventually go down that route (as they did with much success in the iPod range).

M.

Apple has ALWAYS been more expensive than anybody else whether your talking computers, monitors or phones. That has always held Apple back from having a bigger market share and will continue to do so even when they have a hot commodity like the iPhone and iPod.

Til the iPod came around, Apple was really not even in the picture as a competitor for anything. The early bigger iMac with its all in one with different colors made people take notice but thats about it. I was working at the Apple campus back in 1999-2000 when those iMacs came out and the G3's & G4's(G4's were new then) and the first flat monitors came out and the bigger monitor, ..19" or maybe it was 22"...was $4,000. That was for the monitor ALONE!

EDIT** Yep, here it is in writing

The 22" widescreen Apple Cinema Display was introduced in August 1999, simultaneously with the Power Mac G4 and in the beginning was sold only as an option to the Power Mac G4, selling for US$3,999.

Why not just get an iPhone? I bet that Android or WP7 + an iPod Touch will cost you more than an iPhone.

iPhone would require 2 year contract with data plan. Plus this would be part of a family plan, 2 iPhones would bump up the contract price. Paying up front 200$ instead of monthly for 24 months is a better idea. Anyways with ipod Touch i get the iOS feeling along with android or windows 7(most likely)will allow me to experience different ecosystems.

Cheap is the only choice atm for a lot of people in Britain (except for bankers). Quite a few people I know don't even want to go on contracts just incase they lose their jobs etc. So they are not obviously going to pay £500 for an unlocked phone from the shop...no matter how shiny it it, still just a phone.

why would you need to have both?

To be blunt the Android music player is ok and gets the job done well enough that not a point to get the touch and WP7 has a pretty good media player in it and in many ways I would call it as good as the iPod.

Also on Android there is a pretty wide range of choices of 3rd party media players that rival that of the iPod. Double Twist is really good.

Excellent work. Now that you have followed the instructions I gave you, will you admit that IP4 is nowhere near 100 dollars (65 pounds) a month?

LCD monitors have dropped like a rock over the years. 6.5 years ago I bought my 17in LG LCD that I am currently using for 500 bucks. It had a 14 ms response time and at the time that was just about the lowest you could get. Now my monitor is not even what I would call 100 buck monitor for.

Now I can get a 22 in, 5ms wide screen of higher res and pretty much ever spec better for less than 200 and it is also LG. The prices dropped like a rock over the years.

I don't need to admit anything as I made no claims. Are you going to admit the SGS2 doesn't cost the same as the iPhone 4?

You have rather skipped over the "buying the handset in the first place" here.

True, my apologies.

I paid £504.00 for the iphone 4 - 16gb black from 02.
I'm on payg for £25.50 but not locked to paying that every month so my yearly outlay can fluctuate, but however the calculus would be ;

£25.50 x 24 + £504.00 for the fone = £1116.00

To get the same fone on 02 contract i would be paying ;

£63 a month x 24 = £1512.00
No cost for iphone 4.

Cheapest £21.50 x 24 = £516.00 + £304.99 for fone = £820.99

Go on 18 month and the cost rises !

Info from the 02 online shop.

cpw is £67 ax 24 = £1608.00.

So even tho Ive paid upfront for the fone in the long run I'm paying less !

Again, I don't thini, at least as far as phones are concerned, that Apple is necessarily more expensive. Especially since most people get them on data plans ad at elast what I've seen is that the costs can be the same.

I'll repost my post from the Apple industry forum:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/12956883/

I don't think the argument that Apple products are more expensive (ripping off consumers/creating a premium user experience take your pick) is always true.

When I picked up my iPhone 4 in January I paid roughly 99 CHF for it (about 124 USD, 76 GBP or 87 Euro take your pick). I had picked the 32 GB version, if I had gone for the 16 GB IP4 I would have pad 1 measly Swiss franc like every other phone I've gotten with my carrier (Sunrise).

Similarly I've seen the new Samsung Galaxy S2 on offer for 99 francs at Swisscom (16 GB though) so it is the only other smartphone with a similar price to the 32GB iphone. Otherwise the 16 GB ip4 is exactly the same, only a question of choosing the carrier and plan.

Im so wrong how?
I checked the most popular carrier (O2) and that's the price
To get a free iPhone.

My point was in response to the other post that you can't just get a iPhone on normal contracts they're usually high end ones.

O2 are a bit like your AT&T from what I gather.
Overpriced and pretty crap.
Look at the other networks. Much better.

And I Don't know why you are going on about free. In the US the cheapest option is $200 and a year contract.

And actually, the phone itself, is not that much more. £500 sim free unlocked. Last time I checked (about a month back), the galaxy S II was £450 sim free unlocked. Really not that much difference,

Not surprising, the iPhone introduced this hideous 2 year contract idea and the network's have jumped on it

Also: it's Phone not fone!

You're completely missing my point or not reading my posts.
I looked at other carriers they all offer the iPhone free on the highest tarrif (which was my point).

I still don't understand why you laughed and said I was so wrong?

I live in the uk by the way.

Dude, what is your issue !!

If I get something wrong regarding the information in my post then fair enough.

Dont presume to highlight my choice of wording !

Rolls eyes !

Im on a payg contract with 02.

For £25.50 i get ;

300 cross network minutes.
Unlimited texts.
50 mms
1gb of internet.

and im not locked to a contract.

I use a ip4.

You could save a lot more if you switched to GiffGaff. They run on the O2 network, and for £10 a month you can get unlimited texts, unlimited (truly) internet and 250 mins. One month rolling contract (effectively - by buying 1 month goodybags). Have a look ;)

Two year contracts where around way before the iPhone. My blackberry was on a two year contract back in '02-'04.
