They're going to annul it. And the moral of that story is keep your celebrity bride liquored up for a long time after the drunken wedding. ;)

I did it too.

I'm such an ass.

Annullment or not she still got married. I feel very sorry for her.

Now for the REAL story

Guys,

What actually happened is that she married him, but then saw me and realised the mistake she'd made.

As soon as all the legal mumbo-jumbos over we're running away to a small pacific island.

True story.

My sister works in the yearbook department of SLU, (Southeastern Louisiana University) supposedly where her "husband" attended school. She told me that Access Hollywood called the office today looking for pictures of the fellow.

In the eyes of God she is still married. Man's law will not help. She will need to make drastic changes in her life for the future. Hopefully she has repented already. :(

Was it a religious ceremony??? Lol... if so, she's even more screwed than I thought!

If it wasn't in a church, it wasn't official in the eyes of God.

The catholic church annuls marriages and marries the same person to someone else all the time.

Source/Referece :
13 years of catholic school + plus first year Abraham religions study + My Dads friend got a marriage annulled (after 30 years, has a 27 years old son with wife #1, has a son with wife #2, and then after an annulment got married to wife #3 with which he already had a child)

I'm intrigued Stelliform

why in your eyes is the Church wedding, more legitimate then the Civil wedding?

My cousin made a similar point once when we were discussing it. but he could not give me a straight answer.

so i pose the same question to you ...

Let me get this straight - all those people who get married in a civil ceremony aren't really married? Is it only a marriage if it is sanctioned through a ceremony in a Catholic Church? Seems like several billion people are either living in sin or the product of such a union. I think a little broader view might be needed.

Ah *****.

We all know arguments are gonna start when you bring religion or politics into it.

Play nice people :)

Yeah, get it over with so people can move on.

I don't get the fascination with her at all. I scratch my head every time I see her name ranked #1 in Google's Zeitgeist.

In the end it doesn't really matter what any of us think or say about this. It is between Britney Spears, S/O, and God. My mind has never really focused much on her anyway. We all have to live our lives as we see fit.

It's sad to read that she married in a small chapel, wore jeans, and a baseball cap. I pray that she will have a happy and successful marriage.

Um... too bad like hours after she was married she was annuled.

Also It doesn't help that I hate her.

Stupid, marrys a friend... arg.

Where does God come into civil marriages?

I think it's *great* that gays can't get married, by the way, as they would ruin the sanctity of marriages like these :)

Here in Canada you can, well at least Ontario where i live.

About damn time too

different sex, same sex, whatever ... if you love them and want to spend your life together, you deserve all the same benefits regardless of "life style" (hate that word in this context) choice.

I wasn't laughing at him, I thought he was kidding.

And by the way, you really cant tell me what to and what not to post, can you?

And you really dont think that you can tell people what to, and what not to respect, do you? Honestly, that is the most bizarre notion I have ever heard of. Thats a good way to lose friends.

I couldn't imagine instructing people what they should do and who they should respect.

Are you a cop?

revenuee:
You are right it is hard to turn my gut feelings into words...

I guess if I had to quantify my opinion, I kind of look at it as a separation of church and state taken to the next level. Marriage is a historically religious matter that the government seems to be taking over. How can the cold logic of law interact with the emotion of love? It is a much more religious aspect of life.

If you look at the U.S. tax rules with cold logic, it isn't very fair to same sex couples or maybe good friends that live together who are not married. I am all for tax breaks for couples that are bound together. I just think that it should be more evenly distributed. So if you remove the word marriage and replace it with union, you have a good across the board solution. Let religion decide what defines a "marriage" and let the state decide what defines a certain tax situation.

But like you cousin, I find it hard to put to words. I guess on another level Civil Marriage is just a piece of paper filed at the court house. It belittles what marriage is...

Stelliform,

I'm glad you have a marriage that is so much more than the contract between you two. I have to disagree with you about the history of marriage. For most of human history the concept of "love" as the basis of marriage didn't even enter into it. Marriage was all about alliances. In most of the world it still is, and Governments (whether they are in the form of the consensus of the band or highly structured State societies like our own) have always decided the rules of marriage. The fact that we have separated religion from governance has complicated the matter, but it does not mean that we should just sign this area of life over to a separate religious elite. I’m also glad to know I misunderstood you concerning marriages done through other religious ceremonies. It still seems to me you don’t recognize non-religious ceremonies as valid or at least think they are inferior in some way. Am I wrong?

As to the topic of the thread, Ms. Spears is now legally single after a night of stupidity. Having had a few such nights myself, although I never got married during one, I'm glad for her that she doesn't have to continue to pay for her mistake. Now if she could just develop some talent to go with her cute little ...

He has something nice to put on his resume now :D.

Wow.... to be able to say that you were married to Britney Spears. That would be the ultimate, most brag-worthy thing ever ;).
