I had the same problem

I have an iPhone 4 I bought it in June 2010. Couple days ago I had the same problem and took it to a not so "genius" they said they couldn't do anything because it's out of warranty and I would have to pay $150 to swap it out. A minute later he said I have to pay full price because when I went to the apple store on September, they noted that "this phone has been jailbroken repeatedly. do not service this device" I only jailbroke it once. So i'm going to have someone open it and fix it, sell it, and buy a samsung galaxy s2 which is 10 times better then a stupid iPhone. I loved iphones but after I went to the Apple store everything just went down the drain.

Aalawand, I'm in the same boat as you except for I never jailbroke mine, I'm working with a legit Iphone 4. Here is my story I posted on the official Apple forums as well:

I too have a stuck/broken power button on my Iphone 4 that I purchased new at an official ATT store. After reading this thread, I went to the Apple retail store at Barton Creek mall in Austin to see if they could fix it. The employees at the Genius bar were not helpful at all so I politely asked for the manager. I then spoke with the manager named Phil who said since his Iphone 4 works, there is no defect or anything and he couldn't help me. "Well my Iphone 4 power button works" is the exact response I got, no joke. He says anything posted on these Apple forum threads hold no value and pretty much gave me the worst customer experience I've had in recent years. I am currently in the process of making a video to post online showcasing this common issue with the stuck Iphone 4 power button for all to see. Consider this the last Apple product I will ever buy or recommend to anyone.

I got my iPhone 4 in August 2010 and last week my on/off button is stuck too. Went to Apple and they also stated $150 for a replacement. Very bummed...treat this phone like my child and never dropped or bumped. Not to mention I have every item from the shuffle to the iMac in my house. No consideration whatsoever.

Apple no longer cares

I'm in the same boat as the majority of people here. I take very good care of my phone, never once dropping it. The button started slowly sinking in a couple of days ago and the next thing I know it was completely jammed down. I took it in to see a "Genius" that looked at it for a whole 5 seconds and said sorry, we don't fix anything. Either we give you a new phone or you have to buy a new phone. Nevermind that I'm barely a month past warranty.

The Genius helping me didn't even try to entertain me with any real options. She actually took on the next person in line while I was still sitting there, making it clear that she couldn't care less about my situation.

If this was a cheap phone, then ok, I'll buy another one. If I had dropped the phone and this happened, then ok, I'll buy another one. But come on, seriously?

Of there is another Apple store near you, try that one or go back and talk to another genius. They often will hook you up if the warranty has just recently run out.

I was in a car wreck the other day and I guess the phone hit the dash right on the button because it is doing the something. I ordered the cable and a new button from etech parts and I'll hopefully get it fixed this weekend. I replaced the screen before when I dropped it so I have no hope at all of getting a replacement from Apple.

Anyway i ll go with the phone in their service but i don t think they ll change it ... antway sad experiencie with iphone for sure my next phone will be NOT apple . very cheap .... so i ll keep you all posted how will thong go for me

Bought apple care. It expired last month. Boom. Button issue. Unlocked phone too. Paid close to $1000 for this phone unlocked and now this problem. Love it.

Holy **** if I dropped $1k I would be livid too. This happened on my old 1st gen iphone from a drop..

You can buy the part from parts websites though, however i am not sure how difficult it is to replace.

use accesibility touch to turn of your device

go to settings> general> accessibility>assisstive touch(turn it on)> click on little circle at the left hand side> click on device> HOLD LOCK SCREEN ICON> turn off phone. this can be used when your home button or power button do not work anymore. it allows you to turn your phone off without using your power button. You can also control the volume settings from this screen.

Stuck Lock Button Fix

I had mine stuck, and I took it to Apple Store. They said for me to pay $149 and Ill get a new one. I decided to just deal with the inconvenience since it still worked and not pay.

The next day I opened up my iPhone and blew compressed air under and around the lock button while pressing on it and it popped back up.

My iPhone 4 lock lock/ power button is jammed

Today I saw my iPhone 4 power/ lock button got jammed. I got the phone in june 2012 and I did not get my phone from the apple store but from Verizon. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

It's probably still under warranty. Call AppleCare to find out.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use assistive touch to power the phone down. Put it to sleep - yes. Power down - no? Can someone help?
