“Bug”
Yeah,. Right.
Facebook, boiling the privacy of a billion frogs, one degree at a time.

Hmmm. And I guess you are similarly tolerant of Santa and the Tooth Fairy.Even with all the privacy violations Facebook has made over the years, I doubt this is intentional. It looks more like someone tried to take a shortcut while creating a feature so the camera would open instantly without any software optimizations, similar to how Facebook was playing audio in the background to keep the app open a few years back. Definitely still creepy and they should have better software qc, but let's not jump to conclusions too quickly.
How about email/phone.... 🤪I turned off Facebook's access to camera, microphone, location (when not using app) and any other thing I can restrict a long time ago...
Still have the app because there are certain family members who I communicate with on there and they don't use other services.
Facebook's app is apparently able to access the camera when the user did not grant permission. That is a security failure. Yeah FB is taking advantage of it but the security failure lies with apple. Please explain,
Double **** Facebook.![]()
Nah. No social media whatsoever, (unless you include MacRumors as social media), this is the _only_ discussion site that I belong too.
No reddit? Btw MR is infected with Astro Turfers, maybe not the best place to get all your info.
From Wikipedia: “Astroturfing is the practice of masking the sponsors of a message or organization … to make it appear as though it originates from and is supported by grassroots participants.”You’re gonna have to enlighten me, what is ‘Astro-turfing’? And no Reddit.
wouldnt that then be an iOS bug because the permissions are provided at the system level?

Are you saying apps access permissions are enforced by the honour system? And you are ok with this? No, Apple "forbids" App developers to access camera/speaker/photo's without user consent, that is, if you set those permissions to deny acces, Facebook does, so Facebook is the crook.
People want to assign nefarious reasons to this, but given the quality of their software, a bug satisfies Occam's razor.
That said, Settings > Privacy > Camera/Microphone/Location Services/Contacts - rescind permissions from all apps unless absolutely necessary.
