Very interesting.. Thanks for the links.

Appears they only have PPC boards? What about intel?

lol, sorry. I noticed that intel was the pick of the day and not PPC but the options are there if you're looking. Although not so legal homebrew OS X could always be installed on a PC?

So; PPC is out, intel is in. It is possible to get proc, RAM, HD, Display, KB+Mouse seperately the only thing needed now is a logic board. That would either have to be a mac pro, iMac or mac mini board which doesn't give many options or much leeway of where to buy-eBay could always help.

It's not that PPC would be so bad, but I would think that Intel setup would be easier to find/setup/use..

Linux won't help you get your ACTC.
I assume you already have purchased a copy of OS X Server?
Just buy a cheap G4 and go from there. Don't waste any more time.

I clicked on the one link, but didnt bother to browse for an universal version, I will take your word for it.

thanks for the info.

It's just not worth it and is unlikely to work without a lot of hair pulling.
You've got the issues with BIOS / Firmware first of all...

Kind of a problem I have right now. Broke kid trying to go to school ftl. I must have enough parts and pieces to build 10 PCs in my garage. Would love to put them to work for me.

so build 10 working pcs and sell them. even at a few hundred each youd be able to buy a mac server!

Yes.. OSX Server in my hands.. just need the machine.

I'm familiar with OSX86, as I got it working on my PC months ago before buying my MBP..

But I can't really find anything online about OSX86 server setups.

And it's not likely to be something that you should get too much help with here, as it's a violation of the Mac OS X SLA, and the admins here aren't too keen on supporting that kind of thing.

Seriously, get yourself a cheap G4 and go from there.

about pursuing actc---

this is mind bendingly difficult, and I agree you need hands on experience. heres what you do:

buy a 1.25GHz g4 mini on craigslist/ebay. they are ~$300. this is your server. buy a 10 license copy of os x server for $499. then, buy a g3 pismo powerbook for ~$200 on ebay/craigslist. this is your client. then, buy a $30 ethernet switch, the training books, and your ready to go. the whole costs around $1,000.

oh, and btw the two certification exams you need for actc are $150 each, so tack on another $300.
