There's another variable that doesn't seem to have been mentioned: if the security guard is already in the states then why doesn't he just do the orders for the Poles? Seems quite generous to help some highschoolers who are eager to enter the business world!

See, your mistake is you're looking for rationality...you're looking for logic...you're looking for something that even vaguely makes sense.

That's where you went wrong...this thread exists to do just what it has done for you...make you laugh. Over the past couple of days I have laughed so much it hurts. Just sit back, ask your perfectly reasonable questions...and then wait for the response...;) :D
 
This really does make one wonder if the whole thread hasn't been a big sendup and the OP someone who is not really who he purports to be (a naive 18-year-old) but instead is someone, a fully mature adult way beyond his teenage years who is having just a jolly old time jerking the chains of those who have been reading and participating in this particular thread......??? (Yes, I know I'm not the first to suggest this; just reiterating it.)

I actually hope you're right. I'd feel a lot better if this was fake as opposed to some kid who is genuinely unable to process the fact that there are more red flags here than in the Chinese army.

Ah, yes, Waloshin...... I remember him! Yeah, there are definite similarities going on here, now that you mention it. I'd almost forgotten Waloshin. An interesting and supposedly naive character...... Also, long before that, there was someone else who attracted a lot of (not always favorable) attention.....I've forgotten the user name now but he was a real doozy. His posts were waaaaay off the wall, waaaaay off the charts. Eventually he was banned and sent to the discarded heap. That would've been around 2006 or 2007, I think..... Dang, now that's going to drive me nuts until I finally remember that strange one's user name. LOL!

I love the ideas on the WordPress account - a new Mac forum (i.e., 'here'), virtual reality (i.e., 'Oculus Rift'), Freely Recharge Electronics (i.e., 'Qi'), a CD player (i.e., 'the 80s'), a food delivery service (i.e., 'GrubHub'), and so on. Very forward-thinking stuff.

Well, that.....isn't such a sure thing, is it? After all, accessory to an illegal action, possessing knowledge that indeed the whole thing is illegal....... He doesn't stand a chance, does he, in a court of law? Both he and his brother will find themselves learning about a whole new way of life, one behind bars, won't they? Sad, isn't it?

The real risk isn't necessarily one of being caught this time (in the unlikely event that they actually will get paid as opposed to framed and owing $160K). It's that they'd keep doing it, making it inevitable that they would definitely get caught, and with more counts charged against them.

It is sad, if it's real.

Hopefully he can still post though from jail though, I like getting updates. :) On a serious note, are we absolutely sure that the exportation of tons of iPads is illegal though? I mean theoretically they could ship them one by one to Poland I guess.

I think what we're most sure of is that there's no way that paying a $20K "fee" on top of a $140K purchase makes any sense. $2K? Sure, maybe. $20K? No, not at all.

actually it appears to be completely legal now........and of course Apple does it all the time :p

ipads fall under the category of "mass market encryption products" that don't even require an export license......rules have changed over the last 5 or 6 years.

But of course money laundering is a whole different issue

Figured out the security guard also owns another business locally. Forget what the niche is though.

Squilly, to keep this thing on track (the thread) and to condense it all so everyone isn't pulling quotes from all over the thread to put together, please do us a favor.

In one post, lay out the whole plan, in a nice, orderly fashion, from start to finish with as much detail as you know.
