The scene: A new thread started by Squilly titled "Got scammed, any advice on how to get my money back?"

Seriously... I feel like I'm reading the P-p-p-p-p-p-owerbook story all over again. But this time, the person holding the short end of the stick is Squilly.

*gets popcorn out and resumes munching*

Pretty much... I haven't heard much from my brother regarding it (he's keeping it very secretive) and will probably take more than two weeks.

Yeah. For what it's worth, it's at the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union.
I missed this part. This actually does sound legit, right? I think you've proven your case so well.
So you or your brother do not have to put any money up front? If that is the case, you should join him. How is it that you ship the product? you contract UPS freight? Who pays for that?

LOL, until they put a freeze on the account and customs gets involved. Maybe the entire thing is a sting operation.

Sarcasm? Since the Europeans paid us, he (or we) will use that money to pay Apple. I think it's UPS Freight. Europeans pay for that.

Why would it be a sting operation?

No, no, we need 220V adapters.

Are you talking about the different plug parts for Polish plugs? Where are you getting those? Where does the (up front) money come from that will pay for those? Have you ordered those? Are you shipping that out to them?

What is the precise situation at the Credit Union? The money is in an account? Why kind of account? Who is the owner of that account? When do you get access to the money?

When is the bill from Apple due? At time of purchase? At time of shipping? Is it billed "later?" Will you end up re-shipping the goods before the bill arrives?

What are these four residential address to which the eight palettes are being shipped? Does your brother own/lease four residential properties? Who else is involved?

Once the palettes arrive, how is UPS shipping arranged? Will it be picked up the same day? Who is paying for the UPS shipping and how?

What are the import/export laws in the US and Poland with respect to large shipments of consumer goods that are obviously for resale? What is the expected duty to be paid? Who is paying that and how? Is it legal to export goods in this way? Does this re-shipping scheme violate any agreements made with Apple?

And what in the world are these "fees" you talked about?

but even though they've "paid", the money is actually in an account belonging to one of the Poles, you can't get it without "permission" and it doesn't "finally clear" until AFTER you've shipped out the goods? That sounds more like you don't get what's coming until AFTER the goods are gone and out of the country?

Why would it be a sting operation?

Tell us again why the Europeans can't buy Apple products directly from Apple inside Europe. Why did they need to go to a third-party like you and your brother?

Apple products are much more expensive in Poland.

Might get my brother to register to answer that. :p

How much more expensive are we talking? What's the percentage of increase?

If your brother decides to register, it would be nice to hear his side of things. I'd recommend he use the username Squally (if available), so that we will know you two are brothers and can tell you apart.

That much more expensive in Poland, that they can't buy $160K worth from even another EU country where surely there's a lot less shipping involved?

Or that $160K isn't going to score them some kind of deal?

A Clue-x-Four is needed here.

I went back and re-read the thread. Even better the second time.

Squilly, if there is $20,000 to be made every time an order is placed, why aren't there already dozens of established businesses who specialize in buying and selling Apple products overseas? Why your brother's nickel and dime site, which isn't even running?

It wouldn't have happened if my brother didn't talk to the security officer who happened to be a partner of this large chain. Also, they don't just have one store. They have 40 all across Poland.

Sounds like there is some money up front:

No money up front. It's all the Europeans money. Just like Amazon (but without the middleman). You pay before you receive product.

I believe that's what you've been told.

What I don't understand is why you think being told this proves this is a legitimate operation.

You seem to be under the impression that merely having answers to our questions demonstrates that everything is legit.

-----------------------------

my compensation if I enter the deal is 50% of profits, but also paying 50% of fees.

No money up front.

Apple is sending 8 pallets of goods to 4 different addresses here in the US, as only two pallets are allowed per residential address. UPS will come by and pick up the packages and ship internationally to Poland. It'll hopefully clear customs and the money clears fully at that point, I believe.

Please reconcile.

...Senior year of high school, he knew a security guard...

a partner in a large retail chain that owns 40 stores and yet he's working as a security guard at a high school???

Please reconcile.

At the moment, he still needs permission to use the funds, or withdrawal them. As far as I know, when they receive the product, the money is fully in my brother's possession, no need to ask for permission to use it.

I don't understand it either...

Oh ye of little faith!

That's what's wrong with this country today...no trust in High School Security Guards who are partners in a 40 store chain in Poland who have a can't miss, guaranteed money maker!

Sad...really sad...
