OK, a Mac mini server is a great idea, but a grand? Really? I could build a Linux box with twice the horsepower easily for that.

True but you could build a Linux box cheaper than any Xserve or any Windows server that needs a Windows license as well... OS X Server costs $500, so they think they're giving you a deal by including a mac mini for only $500 more :)

I dunno. I'm thinking you'd have to know similar sorts of things if you are really wanting a server. Plopping Ubuntu on a box is as easy as OS X these days.

it's for people like me who have no clue but want to access data from three notebooks and a mac tablet at home.

Magic Mouse costs XXX dollars

Oops! =P

I don’t think I have $XXX to spend! Hahaha (The actual price is right on the first image, but the second 2 are XXX)

Which imac should i buy?

Was hoping the lower imac have quad core. Is it wroth the price or should i go for quad core window 7?

Just marketing, they are just speed differences.

No they are not.
They are different chips using mostly similar tech.
I7 does hyper threading differently as it appear as 8 cores to the system.
i5 appears as 4 cores.
Also i7 hasa triple channel memory controller while the i5 is dual channel.
If there are 4 memory slots, it seems like the i5 may be sufficient for an imac.

Bloody eck... that's the imac i wanted 4 years ago. Not the internals but more the shape. No ugly chin!

Too bad i'm out of the market for one now :(

So the only difference between the standard configuration MacBook and the lowest configured MacBook Pro 13" is design, FW800 port, SD-card reader, and a backlit keyboard?

Actually, it seems like the standard Macbook is beefier than the standard Macbook Pro 13"; the former includes a 250 GB HD versus 160 for the latter. A larger harddrive for $200 less.

Lynnfield and Clarksfield have dual channel memory.

They're under the i7 moniker as well.

NO MORE CLEANING MY SCROLL WHEEL??!?!?!?!

BEST PART OF THE UPDATE!!!!! I hope the stores are stocking this mouse right now! This looks absolutely wonderful!

According to the press release, the mouse won't be available until the end of the month :(

They even go on an on about the HD graphics in the iMac introduction video, looks like Blu-ray was pulled at the last minute. New iMac with Blu-ray coming January ’10. :D

I think the price on the new imacs is very reasonable.
I assume they are 27" IPS screens.

The machine is great, i still like to separate my monitor and computer though.

The only other limitation for me is the fact that it only accepts on internal drive.

Means for my use a MacPro is better.
Once they accommodate 2 internal drives i think i can step down to an imac. for the form factor convenience at home. (The alternative would be serial ATA connectors in the system.)
At work i stick to a Mac Pro.

I'll try my best to wait :D

This makes me so happy though. My scroll wheel has had to be cleaned almost every other day for the last month. It's very annoying - but it seems the days of cleaning it are nearing an end, finally!

So, still no matte screen option?

"And the design philosphy remains the same...." ignore customer demands. Apple still just doesn't get it.

Nice touch with the LED backlight, and good on Apple for using only IPS panels, but why the obsession with 16:9 aspect?

No matte screen = not switching from PC.

The one nice thing about the Magic Mouse is the elimination of the stupid scroll ball. No more rubbing vigorously upside down. Hooray! :)

I hear that, though unless I missed something (in the video/available info), I think we also lost the programable buttons on the sides. I got rather use to those. INMHO, indispensable functionality.

Did anybody catch this part?

On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output — including a MacBook or MacBook Pro — and use your iMac as a display.
