Does this work on Big Sur? It just says 10.9 or above. If so, maybe try forcing discrete graphics, not integrated. See if that helps.

I've said it too many times, but then again - it can't be repeated enough: The father of that crap keyboard, Jony Ive was a douche and I am glad he's gone. What has he done since he left? A whole lot of nothing.
Hole ... being the operative word.
I cannot help but to fully agree with your observations about Jony Ive. Yes, in his earlier Apple days, a lot of his designs were cutting edge, different, and in some ways trend setting. But the last several years of Jony Ive's employment with Apple produced some oddly inefficient designs that were obsessively controlled by his need for "thinness" and unserviceability. That is too bad, but he pretty much lost it when Steve Jobs passed away. Looking at Jony Ive's new company, LoveFrom, it is astonishing that he has done SQUAT in terms of design and innovation. He recently inked a deal with Airbnb to design items for that business. What a tremendous change in his exposure and grasp upon reality. It is not at all obvious what sort of products Ive may design for Airbnb, but compared to the multiple opportunities to "Change the World" by working for Apple, the arrangement with Airbnb has to be a total letdown for the once brilliant industrial designer. I am glad to see Ive gone from Apple. Now with their new own breed of in-house designers, Apple will have a chance to come up with designs that truly do touch with reality and usability. Jony Ive's "NEW" iMac?? Not too innovative, looks pretty much as it has for the past ten years or so. I hope he does better with Airbnb, but I think his ego and frequent clashes with Tim Cook et. al, spelled his demise. I am hopeful for a new generation of Apple Designers and INNOVATION. I am hopeful for a departure from "thinness".

thats strange, i recently had my 2016 15inch replaced under the keyboard program, but as i learned over the years over the phone support is much much more lenient than going into the apple store.

Waaaiiiiiitt you brought in a 2016-2018 15” MBP with a bum keyboard and they replaced it with the 2019 16”?? That’s an awesome deal, really. Personally I would’ve happily taken that but then just immediately gone and sold it to wait for the new 2021 16”.

Edit: Oh wait, might have read that wrong. You got $830 towards a trade-in to get the 16”, or did they give you the 16” free and they would’ve given you $830 towards the M1?

So, to recap: Got screwed on the replacement plan. Got screwed on the trade-in value. Got screwed on the size. Got screwed with the new one lagging. *sigh* (I feel the love)
The 16" lags like mad when on the Intel GPU. And sometimes even on the AMD GPU on the internal display. On external displays it's less of an issue, but without clamshell mode and also on certain monitors with some resolution configs that thing will melt because of an AMD GPU "feature" and the non-cooled VRMs.

And don't expect any fix or try to bother Apple in hope to get them something done. I (and others) already tried. Apple says "works as designed". Case closed.

How can Apple get away with doing this?
How did they get away with the 2011 AMD GPU failure?
With the Butterfly keyboard?
With the iPhone 4 Antenna?
With the 2018 MBP 15" MBP overheating like nuts because they totally gimped the cooling (as always)?
With their T2 causing massive issues to the whole music industry because of latency and drop-outs with USB audio units?

Should I go on?

The MacBook Pro 16” might not be perfect but it’s a beautiful machine and a joy to work on. I don't do 3D rendering or the like just standard stuff but I multitask and when working on writing have many docs open and any number of tabs in Safari and Firefox. It does, however, run hot when attached to an external monitor in dual monitor mode. if you need the large screen clamshell it. It would be great if you could use both screens without these issues but it is what it is. Still, it is a beautiful machine and apart from this one flaw runs fast and cool.

Apple really should have their service program last for 8-10 years from purchase date. They knowingly sold faulty merchandise, and tried to fix it the best they could with silicone membranes (evident in the minor butterfly redesigns) but failed to do so. I've never had a MacBook keyboard fail on me or witnessed any other Mac keyboard fail unless there was liquids involved. My mom's 2010 MBP keyboard is still working. My brother's old early 2008 MBP's original keyboard works flawlessly. This isn't a situation where a vendor like AMD or Nvidia supplied faulty GPUs, this is a design defect due to one man with a thinness fetish screwing up a functional design that has worked for years (hence the reason they went back to a tried and true design)

Warranting a known intentional defect for 48 months is weak sauce, and is pathetic. A $800 MBA or $4000 MBP keyboard should last longer than the useful life of the computer, actually a KEYBOARD for crying out loud should outlast a computer if crumbs and liquids are kept away.
