i agree to just buy now as if you wait for the 2012s you'd be waiting a while to begin with plus the simple fact that you will never keep up unless you are willing to buy each new model as they come out. i also agree that the i5 is more worth the money than the i7 in terms of the 13''.

Forgot about running Windows on the MBP. SO I just need boot camp? How does it work?

Looking to ditch my Win7 laptop for a MBP. Played with the 13.3" at Apple and like the 4GB, 500GB with i7 duo-core. Reading the forum about the new 2012 MBP's coming out, should I wait or go for the current MBP. BestBuy has it for $50 off Apple retail.

The update is nothing but rumors right now, I wouldn't hold my breath. And 2012 is still a long way from now.

Wait, by all means. Apples last a long time, the rumor is the next refresh will have an entirely new case design. I would imagine that those models will be much better at managing heat. That alone will be worth it. Just wait. You will be very happy you did.

I am so torn..... played with the 15" i7 quad-core tonight and its absolutely stunning. I appreciate the fact that a new design can handle heat better and in my case I use the laptop ON MY LAP every day. I hate being impulsive!

Don't base your buys on rumors, you're likely to be disappointed, if the current model does everything you need and you can foresee it doing so for a few years, then by all means, buy it. The newer MBP's don't run nearly as warm as the very first ones in 2006, they are quite usable on the lap unless you are doing very intensive computing, and even then, wearing clothes while having a laptop on your lap is a good idea.

I'm still using my 2006 MBP Core Duo and plan to wait for the next refresh, whatever that brings, and then I plan to upgrade. My current MBP will then be retired and be integrated into my Ham Radio station, where hopefully it will last another 5 years.

I don't need a laptop with another DVD drive, but I need more oomph than what a MacBook Air gives you (I use my MBP for personal and work -- software development). So when the refresh comes out, I'll get the fastest CPU (or the model with the most cores offered), max out the RAM, and possibly get an SSD. That should last me another 5-6 years.

My advice is to wait one more year unless you really hate using what you have now. We'll either get a major case redesign (hopefully sans DVD drive and with more battery capacity, and probably higher res graphics), or not. At the least it will run faster if that is something you care about.
