redesigned mbp will come with its own problems and i hope these problems will be huge in first model. as a proof, i can tell about my 2019, i9 mbp... this serie is being produced since 2016, there are thousands of complaint about screen flickering issue but still my 2019 macbook pro has screen flickering... 3 years passed but apple did not solve this problem. now think about new designed mbp and its own problems. how many years have to pass for apple to listen customers and fix a problem?????? what is the function of apple support? what is the purpose of WWDCs? i have heard many times from Tim Cook or other managers in WWDCs that people can talk and report problems to thousands of apple workers directly in the period of WWDC but as i said before a problem called screen flickering still continues after 3 years of report and thousands of complaints
You have video of this screen flickering? My 2016 I had for 3 years never had that or my 2019 both 15”.

This happens every 50 seconds when i decrease the brightness and use the laptop that way. ( there is no need to change the brightness again and again. Once i decrease it and it starts flickering on whole screen and repeat on every minute.’

quad core even low clock speed, for $1299 is pretty sweet

and touchID seems nice. touchbar don't care for, and I think they should have 256gb now, that would be the minimum id get...

but id hold off as long as possible until theres another design / new keyboard. thats just me / what I'm doing. humming along on a 2016 nTB with a new screen and keyboard/battery. pretty much everything but logic board.

Yea never seen that before. You don’t have AppleCare? I’d bring that to Apple asap

Next generation MacBook Pro is expected to move away from Intel processors and to be built around ARM processors (like iPads). That’s a big change, going beyond keyboard and casing, requiring a whole new logic board (and OS). While that is an exciting development, this change may give rise to its own issues. The cautious approach would be to stand by for a few iterations until these issues are ironed out.

If I were you, I would have waited at least another couple months for the rumored 16-inch mbp to possibly come out.
Waiting for rumoured computers to come out is a mug's game. Even if any such computer were to come out it would be significantly more expensive than the stated budget of the OP.

There's never been a more clear-cut time ... WAIT.

New redesign needs to fix the keyboard badly.

You have a faulty MBP.

Tempted to get the 13 base MBP. I’m using a 2013 late retina right now. What do you guys think?

If your 2013 is working fine, albeit a little slow, I would continue with it till the new releases probably next spring.

I had to buy now because I ruined my 2012 15” rMBP, and I picked up a great deal on a 2018 15” MBP from Costco. It really comes down to what you want and are comfortable with. Frankly, I like typing on the keyboard of the 2018, and the 2019 is supposed to be marginally better. I like it better than my clacky 2012, but I’m definitely in the minority on the forum.

If you wait till next spring and are not impressed with the 2020’s, you would have an opportunity to pick up a 2019 at a nice discount. You won’t lose anything by putting upgrading out of your mind (if you can do that!) till next year, and you may gain.

Absolutely not. Wait for the 2020 model when they fix the keyboard. You've waited this long, don't buy a lemon now.

Could not agree more. Buying any apple laptop with a butterfly keyboard at this point is a terrible move.
These laptops will forever be remembered as the closing act disgrace of Jony Ive.

I'm just glad Apple is returning to some sense of normalcy with the latest Mac minis, Mac Pro, etc.

2016-2019 was a very, very pathetic time for MacBooks. 1 USB port devices? Touch Bar? Broken keyboards? Connector cable issues for screens near the hinge? Just 100% garbage. All of that and considerably increased prices as well.

I just posted this in another thread, but my 2013 rMBP can’t handle the construction documents, and related apps, I use for work anymore. The 4GB RAM is the biggest issue (non upgradeable). I could squeak by to 2020 as I’ve been trying to ride out the keyboard issues - or at least wait for them to vastly improve - but the 2019 iteration appears to be the last stop.

Members of this forum (generally) seem to believe two things are evil, however: first gen hardware and all butterfly keyboards.

I won’t be able to afford the $3k+ 16” model supposedly debuting this fall and the next MBP without the butterfly keyboard to follow that also has a TBD release date as far as I know.

What to do what to do?!

My 2013 Air was getting really long in the tooth. I had been considering buying a new MBP for a long time while keeping an eye on the local used market. I ended up purchasing a used 15" 2015 MBP (base specs) for $1000 CAD. It didn't have any dents or scratches and the cycle count was only 34. I figure if I really like the redesign later this year or next year, I'll be able to subsidize it by reselling this 2015 MBP for about the same price I just bought it for.

I think thats the proper move at this point if you need an apple laptop. Buy something used that'll tide you over but you'll be able to resell at around the same price in few months or next year and use that $$ toward the new redesigned machine.
