I would say mid October is the about latest for a real iMac update. A lesser bump could come later with little announcement but no later than mid November.

An Apple refurbished wil give you a little better value. Also read up on the differences between the i5s and the i7 CPUs so you don't pay for features you may never utilize.

Go ahead and buy, Its more than likely going to be late 2013 or early 2014. Spend the money now and re-sell if a new one comes out. theres always someone looking for a cheaper option to something new, this is what I have done. ebay it

robster - bingo !!

That is the exact approach I have been using for several years now. Get off the "anticipation train", let the new Mac be released whenever, check the reviews / bugs get worked out, compare performance to your current Mac, then decide to keep you current Mac or sell it.

I would say wait until the end of September and see if the next Apple event in October is confirmed. Because they are supposedly announcing the new iMac then. If you see no news or confirmation then buy.

These threads have been poping up here since probably the start of the year. I was in the same boat but we were getting tired of our PC and we decided to get the iMac at the end of Feburary. Best decision I have ever made. Even if they upgrade it next year you will still be happy that you got one when you did.

It was a much better value for me. :)

Ordered a refurb mid-2011 iMac 27" with the i7, 4GB, SSD and 1GB VRAM. The unit they sent me had 8GB and 2GB VRAM so in the end, I saved about $700 over BTO with those specs.

Back in 2009, I wanted really bad to buy a quad core iMac that did not exist at the time, so in late september of that year I got frustrated of waiting and bought a freakingly powerful pc.

Than a few weeks later THE iMac with all I wanted came out, so a couple of weeks later I sold the PC (losing 600$) then bought the iMac. I should have waited.

If you can get by without a new iMac right away , you should wait a couple of months, it is more than likely coming out before christmas, but if you need it right f...ing now, the present iMac is already an amazing machine.

My current iMac is the late 2009 model and I have yet to stumble onto something it cannot do.

So, do you need it right now?

I also have the 2009 iMac and it does all that I want to do. I will buy the new iMac because I think USB 3 will be a big deal plus all the other features Apple has waiting for this computer but I am not impatiently waiting for it

Im done....

I too am looking forward to it, especially for an upgraded graphic card! I'm just a casual gamer but still, considering the price of the higher end 27 iMac, I would like more power on this aspect. But I also need to change my MBP, so if the upcoming iMac doesn't do it for me, I might consider buying a gaming PC that would share an external display with the MBP.

My I5 27 inches 2009 iMac cost near 2k5 and yet it lags when playing Crysis and Crysis warhead on medium settings:eek:. I know that it was a really demanding games but it came out in what 2007? Please Apple, make my day!:)

Is it still working ok, without problems?
Is it still doing what you need to do?

If that's the case, there's no "rush to buy". You can wait Apple out on this one.

My own iMac is a 24" like yours from 2007. Still runs fine and no plans to replace it.

But my -main machine- is the 2004 PowerMac g4 I'm typing this on. 8+ years old and still going!

I have a plan . I m currently eyeing the 3.1GHz
3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

for $1999..when the new imacs get announced..I expect this price to drop(hehe) and that s when I ll buy it!

Now I'm really frustrated. Item shows in stock at Amazon.com. But ship date is 9/27 to 10/5. I thought I would have it in 2 days.

Stock is disappearing everywhere. There's a decent chance your Amazon order will just be cancelled. If you urgently need a new iMac in 2 days, you need to order it off of Apple directly. If you don't urgently need it, I strongly recommend you sit tight and wait for the new models that will be dropping shortly.

I've also been on the fence. I have a new Barclay's Apple financing card that is begging to be used. 12 months no interest if I purchase by the 28th. I've been wanting to take advantage of that but... when it comes down to it, I rather have the newest machine available if something will be released in the near future. This instead of feeling like I paid close to full retail for a 2011 model car as the 2013s were being released. Waiting for a 27".

For weeks (months?) before the iPhone release, we heard more rumors than we do about presidential candidates. Nothing at all about the iMacs.

I'm done with the waiting game. I upgrade all my Macs every year so it's not a huge issue for me. Even if they release in October, I'm not going to be too disappointed.

If you already have an iMac I'd probably wait, I'm doing the same, I'll be waiting till December 2012, if It doesn't come out by then I'll just buy a refurbished or used one..

I get that, but given how difficult it's getting just to acquire a 2011, is it really worth the hassle to end up with an outdated model when your done?

If you upgrade your Macs every year it would seem you're buying the same one you already have, unless you last updated April or earlier last year.

No since the next iMac is Ivy Bridge. I already upgraded my Macbook Air to Ivy Bridge. I upgrade when Apple does a refresh. I'm sure by June there will be an Ivy Bridge iMac or it would be funny if people are still waiting for it. Either way I'm good.
