Are you serious? Apple went from a single core A4 to a dual core A5, and thus multiplied not only processing powers but also cores, made multitasking much easier and saves on battery life plus the obvious performance gain. Graphics also experienced a 9 times faster upgrade. Crappy front and back cameras? That's the main reason most people are changing from iPad 1 to 2, I use facetime very frequently.

Look we can go on and on over whether iPad 2 is "better" than iPad 1. Yes, iPad 2 is faster, "better" than iPad 1.

But we need to take the OP's situation in hand. They already own an iPhone 4 for "facetime". So having facetime on the iPad doesn't add much value to the OP.

Duo core is great. But unless the operating systems are optimized for duo cores, you won't get full utilization of both processing power.

The big gain as you stated is really the graphics power of the iPad 2.

Most people who owned an iPad 1 and upgraded to iPad 2 are like me. I sold my iPad 1 months ahead to subsidized my upgrade cost. Or they just gave their iPad 1 to a love one. But it's not an "essential" upgrade.

i was also going through this same problem but i bought an ipad 2 last week andcouldnt be happier, IOS 5 comes out next month and all will be good. Like people are saying, retina means nothing when you can airplay to a HD monitor

Hmmm... iPad 2 or iPad 3, eh? The 2 got two crappy cameras and a speed bump over the 1. Higher resolution screens are problematic, so don't expect that in 3. The cameras may get a megapixel bump, as will the processor, but since the 2 is already fast enough to play 3D games with power to spare any more processing speed would be like buying a 200mph sports car to drive in a country with nothing but steep dirt mountain roads and drop-offs/no railings.

So wait on the 3 if you are desperate for better cameras (and maybe an LED flash) on your iPad. Buy the two right now if you don't want to have to wait for the fun until the 3 come out. Besides, you can always sell the 2 to help fund the 3 when that time comes.

iOS 5 isn't out next month, OS X Lion is. iOS will be out 'this fall'

Unlike the iPad 1 the iPad 2 is very future proof because of it's dual core A5 some one can be rather confident that it won't struggle much to run future apps. The iPad 3 rumours can be distressing for the gadget enthusiasts keeping tabs on what's coming out. To be frank I cannot imagine an iPad 3 coming out this fall for the simple reason that it doesn't need to. The iPad 2 is immensely dominant to the point that it's hard to even take a glance at its competitors.

Retina display on the iPad 3? A retina display on an iPad would put 99% of all computer screens to shame in the resolution department. In all honesty it would be ridiculous for a simple device such as the iPad to sport a resolution that would serve it's purpose better on a Macbook Pro. It's a logical rumour but yet an overkill for the tasks like Facebook, Angry Birds and Instagram. Running such a high resolution on an iPad would require immense computing power that would drain the battery.

I am waiting for iPad 10.

Wow - determination my friend... I can only wait till 'Lucky 7'.

Has anyone seen reliable iPad 7 mockups? I can't wait!!!

To the OP:

In all reality, If you want/need an iPad now, just get an iPad 2. If you're worried you'll be stuck in the slow lane once the next iPad is released, buy a used original iPad then sell again once the new version is available.

Otherwise, just get an iPad 2 and enjoy!

I've read in some blogs that there are rumors to be realesed the new iPad 3 at octuber. I've read also that this will have no retina display... I found this information here.

Cheers.

I was happy to wait for the iPad2 mostly due to the need for camera. I finally made the purchase on the 1st July at a Apple store.
