I'll upgrade...

I currently have Panther. When Leopard comes out, I'll buy and install it. I used to follow an alternate release upgrade cycle since I didn't want to fork out the equivalent of $129 every year. But if :apple: slows down their development cycle to (a new release every) 18-24 months like they are doing for Leopard, I might start upgrading with every release. :D

I'll be getting the single user copy for my iMac G5. The PowerBook is going to be replaced with a new laptop at some point in the next few months, so I'll stick with Tiger on that one.

Its going to have to be a family pack and a single unit for me as there are 6 macs in the house.

I know this is dubious legally but ... i'd probably download and install it while i'm waiting for the disk to arrive. I get educational discount but I haven't found a store here that accepts it so I have to order online and wait for it to ship.

It's not really illegal if you've paid for it is it?

Although this time round i'm thinking about selling my MB and buying a MBP with leopard Preinstalled.

I'll be buying it with my educational discount. I don't mind how long it takes to get to me, because there's bound to be some fixes released in the first few days anyway.

This'll be the first OS i've actually bought, I got vista for free from my university.

I will buy it. Just not sure when, or if it will be a single copy or family pack. The main computer will get a copy for sure. Will wait until it is released before deciding whether the others will get it or not...

Having said I'd sit tight and get it on my next Mac, Leopard is what I'm waiting for so I won't be waiting too long.

Nobody downloads it and installs it for free. That is illegal and against all good common sense to do. Apple has spent scores of millions of dollars to bring Leopard to you. Why would you think anyone wants to steal it when they can buy it legally for $79 academic?
True only if your actually entitled to the academic discount. If your not entitled, then buying at the educational price is stealing.

I'm taking some tome off of school right now. If I'm not back in school by the time I decide to buy 10.5 then I'll pay full price. The full price is not unreasonable by any means, especially for the family pack. Discounts are nice but I firmly believe in supporting developers.

I will grab the Leopard copy that will be available at the Software Share for graduate students at uni. :) I also might receive it via ADC Student subscription depends if they are fast with shipping or making it available as download. My subscription is valid until 10th of November :)

If You Pre-Order It From Apple Education You Will Get It On Day One

You won't have to wait. Just pre-order it from Apple and FedEx will deliver it the day they say it ships. That's what I did with Tiger and it arrived Friday morning before the Stores started selling it that evening. I was waiting in line at the Palo Alto Store with Tiger already installed on my PowerBook from that morning's delivery.

I like to wait in line at the Palo Alto store even though I already have it. Others in the queue also have it as well. It's a social event.

To all the downloaders...

For shame.

Call them what they are: thieves, not downloaders.

We will have all of them to thank when Apple adopts a screwy product activation scheme, like MS has.

If I keep my iMac then I'll buy it but I won't install asap (have to see what bugs crop up). If I sell my iMac then Leopard will be on my next Mac so it's all good either way. I've yet to download any programs and not pay for them as most have a trial ver. for me to see if I like it (of course not an OS though).
I will always support an OS by buying it either on it's own or with a new Mac :D

I can't imagine downloading an OS. It seems like there could be a lot of problems if you get a corrupted file.

I'm considering a new MacBook, so I will probably already have Leopard on it when I buy it, but otherwise I'll get it from my university bookstore.

Hey thats not fair. What about those of us to are buying new iMacs for our school year. WE don't have 150 to pay just because we couldn't wait until october.
