How about the newly release Intel Core i7 2760QM/2860QM? Will Apple upgrade the processor of the current MBP in a very near future?
They may add the 2760QM/2860QM as upgrade options to built-to-order models, you'd have to keep an eye on the Apple Store online to see if they get added in the next few months. If they do get added, it will be silently- Apple won't publicise it much, if at all.

If there is a refresh it will be mild IMHO. I bought one on discount so either way depreciation has happened. If you can buy under the price or at the price of an apple previous model refurb. You're good. As for me, I'll only buy previous models now, unless more ridiculous discounts happen. I don't see any of the 15" nit being good enough for a fee years at least.

One thing that would make me upgrade, ips display.

Buy now, the current model is well sorted out and it's a good one.

I've used Apple laptops for years, frequently upgrading. I've learned the hard way that buying the first version after a major refresh is asking for trouble.

Look at the short product cycle of the 2010 MBA, only to be eclipsed significantly by the 2011.

THIS! Learned my lesson with the original PB G4 and MBAs. :(

Frankly, the 2860/2960 chips are too expensive to put into a 15" MBP (each would add roughly $200/$700 to the price tag, respectively).

It's always possible that Apple could run out a release with a 2760 and an upgraded GPU, but that seems like a fairly minor change. Would Apple really release a MBP that 's basically the same as the last one? What's more likely as their inclusion as an upgrade option for BTO Macs online, but even that would be somewhat unexpected.

And Apple usually gets the processors early, so... February? :D
They may get them early, but they do not release an update until others have already released theirs. So I would not expect anything until 2nd qtr 2012 is intel provides the chips in march of 2012

What Intel did with the 2760QM/2860QM is remove vPro and increase the clock speed.
I don't think Apple will decide to upgrade to these processors. Too much money for too small a performance boost.

I know this sounds weird, but if you type into Google 'Macbook Pro', click 'News', you can see there if there's any news/rumours on a refresh.

Reason I say is because 1-2 months before every refresh this is a very reliable way to predict when they are coming. You can collate all the news/rumours worldwide. So far, there's nothing at all saying anything about a new Macbook Pro. I think it's good for another 4-5 months.

However, I am selling my 2011 Air when the new Pro's come out :D

Would you recommend the anti-glare screen or glossy screen?

I really couldn't say, i work in a dark office (by choice) with no windows behind me so the glossy does not bother me at all. My ACD is glossy as well.

In fact, I don't think I have ever bothered to check out the anti-glare screen in person....

However, as I said above I would go for the hi-res screen for sure. The pro I got was from the refurb store and they did not have the machine I wanted with the hi-res option, otherwise I would have got it.

You must have missed this rumor, which speculates a November/December release

I have my doubts about a refresh before christmas. Mostly because many apple products in the buyers guide are/have been well past their average update time and most are heading into the 300+ days between refreshes. Basically a one year cycle until updates.

I can't live without high-res.

My MBA and iPhone 4 is enough, my iPad 2 looks awful to me :/

I'd wait until the next refresh. If the next refresh still uses Sandy Bridge processors, hopefully the bugs from the early 2011 models will be ironed out and the new systems will be more stable with less problems. If the next refresh isn't until the release of the Ivy Bridge processors, then wait and enjoy the power.

What bugs are you talking about? I bought a day 1 release MBP 2.2QM and I have absolutely no problems with it...

Current model MBP's are brilliant..I have a 2011 17" 8gb RAM and SSD, the thing flies. I don't use anywhere near its capabilities, so i can't find/see a reason I should need to upgrade in the near future.

One thing you have to learn with Apple is to purchase when you feel the product suits your needs. Apple's marketing is some of the best in the world. You feel pressured to buy their products when a new one comes out because of the shiny white Apple logo on the lid.

If you're happy with the current 2011's specs, get one, you won't regret it..They are a beautiful machine.

I'm in need of a new laptop and I want a MBP however I feel like a new one will be coming out soon..

Do I wait, or do you think Apple is going to wait for Ivy Bridge for the next refresh which will be 5-6 months.... I would feel bad if I bought one now and in a month or two the new ones came out.

I am not sure what to expect if a new MBP comes out now. For sure no new CPUs. Could be SSDs only an a Macbook Air form factor and dropping the ODD.

Other manufacturers are adding the 2X60QMs to their line up at the exact same price point as the 2X20QMs.

ok everyone oon this thread... DO YOUR REASEARCH. Technology stuff changes all the time. Ivy bridge isn't due out until june july 2012 now. so there is likely a refresh/redesign this year.

guys. do your research. technology stuff changes all the time, we should know this. IVY BRIDGE has been moved back to june july 2012. so there is a likely redesign refresh coming

New CPU's from Intel has been released and ATI is coming with it's 28nm GPU this year.

I will laugh if the new Pro comes out this year :D

Why does everybody has to put stuff as fact without so much at looking them up.
2720 and 2760 cost the same and 28x0 is also the same. There is no price difference. It is a performance boost for no extra money at all.
